You are right. I didn't know that he was actually a member. However, according to that Wikipedia listing, he left the party in the 1950s, so calling him one in 2010 is sort of dumb in the same way calling Larry King a teenager would be.
"Communist" is just one of those politically loaded terms (like "Nazi" or "fascist" or "socialist") that rubs me the wrong way because the kind of people that throw those words around aren't really interested in doing anything but derailing honest debate about issues. That's just my hang-up, though.
