you know the lead in to Conan was the local news right? Conans ratings were low if they were strong do you really think NBC would dump him? When Leno was the host of the tonight show he was #1, only time Letterman won was when he got caught screwing his interns.

I don't stay awake to watch anyone so it doesn't matter who's on. but you can't argue with ratings

In theory Leno's low ratings at 10 effect the 11 o'clock local news which in turn effects Conan's ratings at 11:35 because he has no lead-in.....

That and NBC gave Leno several years to build his audience. He wasn't consistently #1 in the ratings until over three years into his run when Hugh Grant was on. They've given Conan seven months.

NBC and Jay Leno have really shot themselves in the foot.

I was just reading Leno may leave too, Conan's contract never specified what hour his show would air while Leno's said 10pm. And the fact that NBC is making him the villian. the whole move wasn't his/Leno's idea.

I've never, ever found Jay Leno funny, or even slightly amusing. He turned the Tonight Show, which always had a certain comedic edge under Johnny Carson, into tripe. He needs to go away.

I used to love Leno as a comic, angry, motivated and damned funny. This was before the Tonight show mind you, ever since then he's just toned it down to a point where he's simply amusing.

Followed Conan since day 1, for some reason i taped it even though I'd never heard of him. As Letterman's replacement, I thought he had gigantic shows to fill but he did it with talent and his own brand of humour.

I can't finish the 10pm showing of American Dad these days but I am still a loyal fan of COB.

The whole "Conan's contract didn't say when the show would come on" seems a bit far fetched to me. Even if it didn't implicitly state it, the Tonight Show has came on at the same time for what, 35 years or more? Leno should just retire. He's seriously working to destroy the Tonight Show.

Leno could easily host a car show for one of NBC's other stations. Then he could do something he loves and none of us would have to see him.

I don't actually think Leno is the villain, either. He didn't want to give up the Tonight Show. NBC forced his hand when Conan was red hot several years ago. They were afraid of losing Conan, so they made the deal. Supposedly, NBC started to regret the decision soon after when Conan's ratings started to drop and Leno continued to dominate. Bear in mind, I am no Leno fan. I used to like him when he was a guest on Letterman and a guest host on the Tonight Show, but truly despise his Tonight Show. I just think NBC had something like this in mind when they kept Leno around.

Yes, it's NBC that botched it and Leno and O'Brian are the victims. Being cajoled out of places where they were prospering.

David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel rally behind Conan (and even Jimmy Fallon)...and make fun of Leno...

Both Letterman and Kimmel are making fun of Leno's chin/jaw...they must really hate him...lol.

Leno might never recover from this fiasco.

If Carson hadn't gotten old, retired, and then died....well, this wouldn't be an issue. Nobody has even come close to Carson (yes, I realize times were different when he was King).

I remember, at Carson's retirement, the announcement of Leno vice Letterman as the replacement. I was P to the power of O POed. "Letterman paid his dues and that punk-arse Leno got the free lunch". Hell, they made a movie out of that drama The Late Shift (1996) (TV) (up 197% in popularity this week...I wonder why?)

Didn't take too long, in the scheme of things, for Leno to consistently kick the crap out of Letterman (ratings-wise) and he did it for the duration. Maybe, they knew what they were doing.

Leno is not a guy I can easily hate. By all accounts he is a nice Dude and he seems like someone I would like to hang out with, but he has had his day and promises were made to Conan. No need to repeat the past to give the same Dude the same due you already gave him once.

Jay has had his day. Initially, he had it at the expense of Letterman, but he made good on it. No harm no foul, really.

This time, it would be completely different. In this scenario, for Jay to "WIN"...well, EVERYONE would lose.

I still wonder how Leno originally got the Tonight Show to begin with.

Before that, I only knew him as the Doritoes guy.

He must have been bl__ing somebody real high up to get the Tonight Show gig from the start.

Well, he was one of Johnny's regular guest hosts before he got the permanant job, so he was already a contender, it's not like they just hired some guy out of the blue (unlike what happened when Conan took over for Dave on Late Night. "What?! Who???" )

And as far as I'm concerned, The Tonight Show died when Carson retired. No offence to Leno or Conan, but it's never been the same show to me and I have very rarely watched it since Johnny, so I don't really care what happens with this mess now.
