That and NBC gave Leno several years to build his audience. He wasn't consistently #1 in the ratings until over three years into his run when Hugh Grant was on. They've given Conan seven months.

NBC and Jay Leno have really shot themselves in the foot.

In theory Leno's low ratings at 10 effect the 11 o'clock local news which in turn effects Conan's ratings at 11:35 because he has no lead-in.....

you know the lead in to Conan was the local news right? Conans ratings were low if they were strong do you really think NBC would dump him? When Leno was the host of the tonight show he was #1, only time Letterman won was when he got caught screwing his interns.

I don't stay awake to watch anyone so it doesn't matter who's on. but you can't argue with ratings

This really angers me. I have been watching Conan since his first Late Night show, and can't believe that NBC is doing this to him and the Tonight Show over Leno's HORRIBLE show. It is insane that they would even consider moving the Tonight Show's time slot after so many years. Next thing they will be moving SNL to Sundays. NBC have a bunch of idiots making decisions over there, and Leno needs to stick to the original plan and actually retire.

The days of the Big Three holding all the cards is over. What the Tonight Show had to offer can now be accessed 24 - 7. I am glad that Conan told them to ******* themselves. He's paid his dues and deserves more respect than what they have offered him.

I don't usually watch Conan but caught it tonight because of all the fuss going on and I'm bored. Well actually mostly because I bored and have too bad of migraine to do anything else.

Still didn't find him funny and I thought he milked NBC mess a bit much. I have nothing against any of them and none of them will be hurting for money or jobs no matter how this ends up.

I'm just reminded myself about Bill Hicks brilliant rant against Leno. Warning, very, very, very offensive.

I love his jabs at Leno without naming him. He mentions twice not having a strong enough lead in to his show.

He did used to be cool, you're right. Letterman called him the best comedian in America. It was the Doritos commercial that did Jay in. He was never the same after that.

Maybe Magic Johnson could get his old show back.

I like Conan a lot. Jay's grown boring and Dave's seemed to grow more bitter and cranky as the years go on, and it's just not fun to watch.

I don't hate Jay, but that's mostly because I remember when he'd guest on David Letterman and drive onto the stage on a motorcycle, then deliver a kickass angry interview. One that immediately springs to mind is the "circuses are entertainment from the 15th century" bit where he talked about clowns throwing anthrax spores at the children. Unfortunately, that Jay is long gone, replaced by the likeable, dull Jay.

At the risk of being completely ageist, it's yet another case of a greedy, self-centered baby boomer screwing things up for Generation X.

To me, Leno is tired, Dave just mails it in, Stewart/Colbert is too political for large doses, and Ferguson and Conan are just 'OK.' I need my beauty sleep. Fallon is atrocious - that lovable deer in the headlights crap was endearing for about three seconds.

Conan's the hero, Jay looks like the bad guy. It's over. The only they can salvage it would be for Leno to retire and give it to Conan like he should have the first time.

Still, as much as I like Conan, I only watch Jon Stewart anyway.

NBC only moved Leno to cut the budget. They didn't have to put money into shows for that time slot. Now that failed and they are scrambling to keep Leno. The competition from cable networks is killing network television ratings. This is Conan putting up the flag to CBS & ABC saying-show me the money.

I agree. NBC proves again that many of the decision makers are tools. They pulled this stuff with Letterman (who unfortunately has never been the same) and are pulling it again. Leno is okay but I don't understand where his clout came from then and now.
