Yeah, the Chicago Bozo was the primary one, and other stations nationwide franchised their own versions.

We had a magician (Eric Summers) turned Kids show host (initially on a show called Wombat - Kids education and varietyt type show), do a morning Breakfast Kid show for years called Boris the Blacknight. Entertaining, initially all hard nosed tough talk, but the character mellowed over time.
We had Bozo the Clown,Capt Kangaroo and some guy named Captain Ernie. This also reminded me of Romper Room with Miss Peggy? and her magic mirror." I see Tom and i see Sharry and theres Joey........."
CBS KIRO 7 Seattle Wa. had "J.P. Patches"(Chris Wedes). So much like Skelton"s "Freddy the freeloader", JP lived in the city dump. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this show over the years.
As much as JP means to me, I will never forget "The Count" aka "the KIRO vampire" of "Nightmare Theater". Joe Towey scared the heck out of me for about 3 years. Even today, I remember being the only one still awake at 11:30pm. Rarly ever made it much passed the the begining of the second feature.
We had tons, but I only cared about the ones that showed horror movies.
>We had Barnaby in Cleveland during the week.
I remember him! He seemed like an old-timey gangster to me. Kinda weirded me out.

Captain Chesapeake would also do the "Ghost Host" at night where they would show weird horror movies. Had a creepy into.
I believe Captain 20 in D.C. did something simular but im not sure.
When was Captain 20 on the air? I vaguely remember the name, but can't get an image.
In the 70's ans 80's.
