    Krusty the Clown's character question?

So I finally after all these years I knew it to be true that Matt Groening based his character off a local t.v. clown called Rusty Nails.
What brings me to my next question.
Does anyone remember when their local t.v. stations had characters like him?
We used to have a guy in Baltimore called Captain Chesapeake (R.I.P.) and in the D.C. area there was Captain 20.
They would have silly skits and introduce cartoons Mon-Friday when i got off school.
I miss those days. Sad that local programming doesn't do that anymore.

I remember watching a show called "Tubby and Lester" when we lived in Atlanta circa 1970-1975. They were sorta clones of Laurel and Hardy. I even remember seeing them in a Christmas parade around that time as well.
Prior to that, we lived in Indianapolis, and I remember one of the local kid shows featured a lady named Janie. She originally did a "Popeye and Janie" show that later morphed into simply "Janie". I also used to watch "Chuckwagon Theater", which later became "Cowboy Bob's Corral".
Here in Kentucky, I can remember that one of the Nashville stations, Channel 2, had their own Bozo show which ran every week day. They used to show those dreadful "Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse" cartoons, as well as the old Bozo cartoons.

No clowns here in the West, we had a cowboy with a bear puppet. Buckshot and Benny the Bear. He had a long run too, until the network that owned the local channel that he aired on decided he was too...lame (?)....and run him off the air.

We had Barnaby in Cleveland during the week. He showed cartoon. On the weekends, we had Superhost, who showed monster movies, Laurel and Hardy and Three Stooges. Superhost was a fat guy in a Superman like outfit with a red nose. His real name was Marty Sullivan.

I'm pretty sure Capt. C used to drink at the restaurant up the street from me when I lived in Hampden. I remember him more from childhood TV.

Rusty Nails was a bit before my time, but I loved the show from the guy who took his place "Ramblin Rod" sometimes Ramblin Rod would have Rusty Show back up on his show.
