It's hard enough for some folks to get through the holidays (family issues, dysfunctional relationships, depression..), so let's add some preachy songs to feel even more guilty about.

I actually like the 'Do They Know It's Christmas' song, but I agree with your point whole-heartedly..

Actually if you are talikng about the aid for Ehtiopia song Written by Bob geldoff the title actually is "Do they Know it's Christmas" by BAND AID. and it is still way better than "We are the World"

as much as I dislike WAR IS OVER there is a recent one that is really awful Neil Diamond Cherry Cherry Christmas

That's the whole point of Christmas...no? Sharing with someone less fortunate than you without concerning yourself with their religious beliefs.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Grandma got run over by a reindeer. It was a fun song when it was first released but I think it has just been played way too much on the radio.

I agree....the novelty of this novelty song has definitely worn off. The original version was by Elmo and Patsy. By when they got divorced, Elmo re-recorded it and I think that's the version that is played the most now. He really over-accentuates some of his lines and it becomes quite annoying IMO.

Hah! That's the line that I love the most in that song...he's so angry when he says it.

The other one that I somewhat question is the line about no snow in Africa this Christmas time....Does Africa get a lot of snow in general?

BTW, Bono's line is.."Tonight thank God its them, instead of you"

That stupid "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" song. It was funny once when it came out and I was quite young but hearing it every Xmas drives me nuts!
