I have a problem with period peices being included.

        Grease
        American Graffiti
        Godfather
        even Star Wars

It's like those movies could have been made in any decade.

I thought about that when I picked Grease since it's set in the 50's but it's so 70's in my mind since that's when it came out.
Hey, could've picked the Sgt Pepper movie with the Bee Gees. That's 70's.

Yeah, American Graffiti is an AWESOME flick but wouldn't give anyone a realistic view of the 70's.

Prior to the 70's ..., I disagree. With that Movie,.. something like that was never really ever done before. It shows you the Technical Advancements of Movies,.. and basically screams 70's with the Hair-do's on Luke & Han.

But seriously ..., Because of this Movie, and Jaws,.. The "Summer Blockbuster" was Born.

I think the Flick is Iconic for the 70's .... The cultural Time period and this Movie goes Hand, in Hand imo... Because it happened. It was probably the 1 thing other than Mego and the Color Brown that I really remember from the 70's.

I agree with the rest of your choices and reasoning's... Hell Grease was a Movie that took place in the 50's and was a Musical ..., Not very 70's-ish to me ..., and with GodFather, I have never thought 70's with that Movie.

Ah - well that narrows it down. Though a lot of the great movies of the 70s were full of 50s nostalgia.

How about A Clockwork Orange? It takes place in a fictional time, but is there a more 70s looking movie in existence? It's like the 70s on steroids!

Otherwise I think these represent the era really well to me:

                Network
Annie Hall (I actually like Manhattan even more, but Annie Hall looks more 70s to me because it's in colour)
                Electra Glide In Blue
                Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Being There (I watched this movie again a couple of weeks ago and it actually gave me flashbacks of being in a theatre and watching the movie "Fast Break" starring Gabe Kaplan - a movie that I completely forgot existed.)

                  A Clockwork Orange
                  Apocalypse Now
                  Godfather
                  Jaws
One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest

are all good choices, but if I had to choose one it'd be Godfather

                    Probably Superman.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

"Vanishing Point" The Ultimate Car Chase Movie!
I'd also put in a vote for "Enter The Dragon"

C'mon, guys! NOTHING screams '70's like KISS meets the Phantom of the Park!

If you truly want to represent the 70's then I would go with "Up In Smoke"

My favorite movie from that time was "Rollerball"

                              Rocky gets my vote.

                                Ditto.

Although Star Wars would be right up there as well.
