Leave it to my brother to not check his schedule and give me a call that I had to take care of my nephew this weekend.

So today we went back to the movies and watch The Iron Giant. I have not seen this since it came out in 1999 and my boyfriend and nephew haven't watched it at all.

I forgot about the comic book scene where they showed The Spirit and Superman books. It was fun watching the boys laugh through the movie.

Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981)

I never saw this when it came out in 81. I was always curious about it, all I remember was on "Siskel & Ebert" the two making light of the fact that the Only reason the ranger used Silver Bullets was cause he was a Lousy shot!!!


Well, after watching it, I was a bit flabbergasted. Was it bad? Was it good? On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 3. It had it's moments, but its legacy is pretty sad.

Klinton Spilsbury; who played the ranger was a bit of a mystery. He did some soap opera work and some bit tv parts and this was his ONLY film and after this he never worked in tv or film again! He went on to become a photographer and that was it, Michael Horse (Michael James Heinrich) who played Tonto, debuted on this film as his first venture into film and tv! He thought he would suck! Before this he had a bit part in a Raquel Welch made-for-tv-film!



Wow. Honestly, I am such a fan of the classic series with Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels, that this just doesn't do that series justice and then there was the Clayton Moore LAWSUIT. WHere he was NOT allowed to wear his mask. SO what did he do? He wore shades!!! That too also left a sour taste in one's mouth.


I saw this on one of those COWBOY Channels like INSP, FETV or GRIT! (GRIT have their own channel? What a change from the newspaper!!) If you have the time and its available or actually LIVED through it already then ya know what to expect.

I own this movie on VHS (found while out thrifting), and I've watched it once a few years ago after I found it: I wasn't too impressed with it.

I never seen it during its original release, but I do remember before it came out, in school we had to do a little write-up and draw a picture of our favorite TV show. I drew "The Lone Ranger", as I watched it for years by that point since it was in reruns on the weekends. Why I bring that up is because the girl who sat next to me at our desk told me that there was going to be a Lone Ranger movie coming out, but like I said, never seen it on initial release.

I'm going to have to give it another go to see if it got any better. I do remember that I thought Christopher Lloyd was miscast as Butch Cavendish. I will say I *did* find it better than the Lone Ranger from 2013 with Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer-I though that thing was horribly bad.

SYNOPSIS: "Our Vanishing Americana is a four-time Emmy nominated documentary that showcases photographer Mike Lassiter's quest to capture the essence of Main Street across his home state of North Carolina. In this clip, he visits barber Kenneth Wood. Wood began cutting hair in 1927, the same year Lindbergh flew the Atlantic and the New York Yankees starting their "Murderous Row" run."


Actually, I think they screwed up the synopsis as the book deals with NORTH Carolina and the doc deals with SOUTH Carolina.



I have never been to South Carolina (or North for that matter) Is there anyone here from SOUTH CAROLINA???? If so you should be very proud of your state. I really enjoyed this doc and in it we get to see the following:

* South of the Border! Georgetown

Plus more!! And it's only about an hour or so!!! Guerin's is still an OLD Fashion Pharmacy that they MAKE their OWN Prescriptions!! Jack Thompson started taking pictures right after WWII and he had NO IDEA on how to use a camera! And look at how he turned out! All the hardware shops mentioned here are so MOM AND POP that everyone knows everyone and its just so grass roots!! Really enjoyed this, I would love a crack at something like this, maybe a doing a doc on toy and comic shops on the Route 66 trail???

As I mentioned in my earlier post, my deskmate that told me about the "Legend of The Lone Ranger" movie-It was a bit odd, because I remember, she used "Taxi" as her favorite show (she drew a picture of a cab going across the bridge). Whether or not she knew that "Reverend Jim" was in the "Lone Ranger" movie, I'll never know.

Also, I don't blame you for swearing off the 2013 "Lone Ranger" movie-However, if you're in the USA and want to see it, I will send you the DVD of it free of charge (just PM me your address).

Apes!! That is so kind of you, thank you. I am good, I am afraid that if I see Johnny Depp as onto, I will lose respect for him. ( I love 21 Jump Street, the REAL ONE) Are you in Blighty????

I do remember you mentioning the continuing adventures of Galen, Burke and Verdon in the sci-fi thread below (right??) Which I still need to get!! And if your a fan of westerns, then get set for my next review!

DODGE CITY (1939)

With out doubt this IS one of the best westerns of all time. A PERSONAL Favorite of mine. Staring ERROL FLYNN and the basic plot is Flynn and his boys are driving cattle from Texas to Dodge!


Once their they find the town a mess, shooting, killings, etc.etc.. A tragedy occurs involving a innocent and that drives Flynn to take action and clean up the town.


The story is great, the camerawork is great and in my opinion this film has the BEST BARROOM FIGHT in a western of all time!!! Oh and their is lots of comedy and wisecracks!!!


I have it on dvd in my fortress of Solitude, but I saw it on FETV and decided to watch it. If you get a chance, check it out!!!

My local theater does Flashback Cinema in Sunday so boyfriend & I took parents to watch Smokey and the Bandit.

This movie definitely was part of the influence to Dukes of Hazard. We also forgot how much language there was in this movie because they also did a "tv" version where the actor dubbed a different words.

I haven't seen this movie but the mention of what inspired "Dukes of Hazzard" made me think of this. "The Moonrunners" is basically where the Dukes came from. Narrated by Waylon Jennings, it tells the story of two cousins running moonshine for their Uncle Jessie and avoiding Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrain. I only read about this recently, not sure how well known it is.

I have a DVD copy in with my Ducks of Hazzard collection. After watching Smokey and then Moonrunners you get where the Dukes began.

The exchanges between Rusty, Tex and Wade (Flynn) are classic. Great film.

Just watched The Fall Guy on Peacock. I wanted it to be good and I wanted to like it, but no. It veered too far into the absurd and I just couldn't choke it down. It was off to a decent start and had an interesting twist, and then it came apart at the seams. Good stunts, though, and great credit scenes.
