Today boyfriend & I watched Twisters.
      twisters 2.jpg

It was a great sequel. It paid homage to the original in about 4 scenes but was a different movie and ended differently. Worth going to see at the theater.

      twisters 3.jpg
James Paxton (son of Bill Paxton) character Cory was a 'fun' character was part of one of the homage scenes.

        Death Game 1977
Sondra Locke and Colleen Camp invite themselves in to a man's home , eventually seduce him and then torture him.
My friend assumed this was going to be a exploitation film but I don't think it really was. There is some racy stuff but it was kind of done....arthouse.

An interesting movie I'm glad I saw. Death_Game_poster.jpg

            Did some research and...

Death Game has been remade twice. It was first adapted into the 1980 Spanish film Vicious and Nude (Spanish: Viciosas al Desnudo), directed by Manuel Esteba and starred Jack Taylor, Adriana Vega, and Eva Lyberten. This release's sex scenes and violence are much more explicit than in the 1977 original.

Death Game was remade again as 2015's Knock Knock, directed by Eli Roth and starred Keanu Reeves, Ana de Armas and Lorenza Izzo. Some of the principal cast and crew of the 1977 film participated in the production of Knock Knock. Peter S. Traynor, Larry Spiegel, Sondra Locke, and Colleen Camp were all credited as executive producers. Anthony Overman and Michael Ronald Ross are credited with the story. Camp also has a cameo in Knock Knock.

            What a Legacy!!

Little Richard: the King and Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll

Saw this on PBS (that Channel again!! ) And Even though it is a time piece (1980's) It does show the history and influence that this man has had on Rawk and Rall!! In fact I will even go as far as saying, that he was a Godfather of Heavy Metal!!! We see his life as a youngster growing up in Macon, Georgia in a family of 12 Kids. Leaving home at age 14! Due to his Father not approving of his "Look", he sets out to be a musician. Needless to say it is ROLLER COASTER RIDE and there is never a dull moment. My highlight was his 1962 Euro tour and his performance at the Granada Theatre in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He is deciding whether to do his gospel set or to do his R&R hits. And then he Launches into LONG TALL SALLY! The place ERUPTS and there is almost a RIOT!!

I am sure on this tour a very young IAN FRASER KILMISTER saw this tour and his fate and the fate of many others all over the planet were sealed!

Mr. Penniman is a very likeable person and I enjoyed this flick very much!

The movie was very good and just about when you figure out the movie, you don't. Also, it was great to see Hayley Mills. I grew up watching her movies.

Now we do not play video games, so to is there is no history with this movie.

We enjoyed it. To us it was a fun sci-fi post-apocalyptic summer popcorn movie where you go just to forget about your troubles for 102 minutes. Love those type of movies.

TOM SAWYER (1973) with Johnny Whitaker and Jodie Foster!!

                            image.png

This was shown on TCM (Turner classic Movies) and what makes this showing special was that Ben Mankiewicz and guest host: Mario Cantone were the doing the opening AND closing comments on the film and Mario REAMED Mankiewicz!!!

Ben Claims that this version was a "Glorified AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL" and Mario defended the whole film including the opening number by RIVER SONG by CHARLEY PRIDE!

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with Ben, it does have a "After School" feel to it. But hey it was the 70's!!!

But Mario defended the music, the wardrobe! The plot and the acting!!! wow!

                            ME? I dug it, but...

It's Twain and a classic, but!

The whole deal with "Injun Joe". Just got to me. I mean talk about vilifying someone to such a degree.

I guess that HARVARD DEGREE, Joe got was only able to get him a Grave Digger position?!?!?

WHAT? Joe didn't go to Harvard? Oh, he must have gone to YALE, then!????

Watching this film, you have to STOP and think; "Okay how did JOE end up like this?"

"What circumstances in his life led him to this point in the film and in history?"

We can talk about this for hours if not days and I would have loved to have had a looong chat with Mr. Twain about this. I do wonder how the peoples of the First Nation dwell upon this bit of history.

Kudos to Johnny Whitaker, he was on top of the world in 1973. A personal favorite of mine!

                            JG!

Martin Scorsese Presents: Val Lewton – The Man in the Shadows

This was on TCM a while ago and I don't know why I taped it? Curiosity I guess. So I finally checked it out last night. Val Lewton was a Producer and screenwriter that produced a dozen or so films. He worked at for David Selznick (Gone with the Wind) as his right hand man, story editor, researcher, and script doctor; before he got a gig working for a new studio called: RKO!

He got paid a salary of US$250 per week. He would have to follow three rules: each film had to come in under a $150,000 budget, each was to run under 75 minutes, and Lewton's Bosses would supply the film titles prior to the start of production. This would not go well.

The film has interviews with his son: Val E. Lewton (his son) , Roger Cormen, Dr. Glen Gabbard, Jacques Tourneur and Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

Lewton saw that EVERYONE has the potential to be evil and murderous, So he had discovered his methodology of writing and producing his films, which his first one would be

CAT PEOPLE (1942). for $130,000 this film made $4,000,000. RKO saw that Universal were spending MILLIONS on their films(Frankenstein, Dracula, etc, etc) and thought that was rubbish. So hence the directive to have only $150,000 a film.

Sadly this put pressure on Lewton, but somehow he made it work. Interesting Doc and as a film student, it is very insightful!

Leave it to my brother to not check his schedule and give me a call that I had to take care of my nephew this weekend.

So today we went back to the movies and watch The Iron Giant. I have not seen this since it came out in 1999 and my boyfriend and nephew haven't watched it at all.
