In Temecula, it seems that Trick or Treating is a daytime activity which I find pretty lame. Halloween Trick or Treating is more fun in the dark. My wife and I took our son out at 3pm because that's what she wanted to do. It was the lamest Halloween ever for me.

      Daytime???
Heck, if somebody showed up before 5 pm back in the day my folks would've sent them packing. I (when I have candy that is) dont even answer the door bell till after 5:00myself. Anything earlier than that is'nt Trick or Treating....it's just begging!

Furthermore, your absolutely right...the dark just makes it more fun. You need the dark element to really reinforce the spookiness!!!

We are never at home to see if there are any trickers or treaters. Tho we have not come home to any tomfoolery - yet. This year we were too busy having a rather swell time at our town's central park party. Good times.

Nothing in over 10 years here ... maybe even longer. the most we've had in one year is 2 and they were the kids that lived down the street.

My neighborhood had a lot of kids. I would say we probably saw 100-150 kids making the rounds.

Halloween is the one time of year when begging is acceptable. But in my mind, you have to give something to get something. If I'm gonna give away free candy to total strangers, they have to be in costume, that's the purpose of trick or treating! I did the same thing last year, and I've never had any problems w/ kid defacing my property. Last year, the same 3 boys came back 3 times and the final time they got the message and put something on.

And as for the early thing, in WI, you get announcements on the news about the times for trick or treating. It's ALWAYS in the daytime, and ALWAYS on a weekend, whether Halloween is or not. In certain citites it's on Saturday, and some cities on Sunday. It's to keep crime down, I guess. This was a weird concept for me when I was living there, but I kinda got used to it.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

When we last visited the US, we were so excited because we'd get to "experience" Halloween!
We bought candy, waited in anticipation at our friends' home, for that first doorbell to ring.

One kid showed up. He was like: "gimme the candy".

                                Sigh.

This Halloween I spent by myself, as usual, watching Jason goes to hell (cr*p movie, stopped halfway through), and the Omen remake.
                                My wife hates horror movies...

                                Sigh.

Next time, let's get together and make it a fun evening, OK?
