    Leona Helmsley's dog inherits $12M

Even in her death, her nasty demeanor comes through....leaves her dog $12M and a couple of grandchildren $0. That's what I love about dogs....they love unconditionally and can give undevotional love to someone full of spite and greed.

No idea who she is, but anyone who gives that much money to a dog in stead of to her grandchildren has no class whatsoever. This is ridiculous

I agree. It is crazy people will do this.

When I read things like what Adam West said here:
That's what I love about dogs....they love unconditionally and can give undevotional love
My thoughts (in the Helmsley context) are...one reason I do not enjoy the
emphasis put on "pets" in our society is that (for example) a dog will love
unconditionally, and this "guaranteed love" gives the owner an opportunity
to put their ego and pride aside and claim unconditional love for it ---or any
other such animal--knowing that the animal will not make them feel foolish
for taking such an emotional risk or "let them down" in a relationship--

            but...NEWSFLASH: these are animals--

--and there's a difference between Benji---your trusty animal companion---
-and your grandchildren---human beings who are your bloodline and the ones
building the future of this planet and mankind

human beings suffer as a result of not understanding this

I have a lyric in one of my songs that says:

"You can give your love, but you'll never have enough to give to everyone..."

which, in this case translates to---well, we have a FINITE amount of
affection and attention that we can give to others----and to see so
much of it go to creatures outside of the human race baffles me

We (humans) need all the love we can get!

I'm not saying to be cruel to animals-----GOD no...but just have your
            priorities in order

            Helmsley...in my opinion....obviously did not

Her dog probably gave her more love and affection than her grandkids. I don't think it is wrong of her to give it to her dog. As you can tell, I really love animals, and sometimes, the more time I spend with people, the more time I want to spend with my animals.

With all respect---that's exactly the kind of copout I'm talking about.

Okay, how can a dog own anything? Obviously someone is acting as a caretaker of those funds, but still. It should be illegal. Any case that a will names a pet should be treated as if there were no will at all.

It was her money so she can do what she wants with it. One question though, when the dog croaks who does the money got to?

For those unfamiliar with the dreaded "Queen of Mean", here's more information:

I read in her obituary the other day about her son Jay:
On March 31, 1982, her only child, Jay Panzirer, died of a heart attack. Leona then sued her son's estate for money and property that she said he had borrowed, and her son's widow Mimi received an eviction notice. Mimi Panzirer - the mother of Leona's four grandchildren - later said the legal expenses wiped her out and "to this day I don't know why they did it." These would be the grandkids she snubbed in favor of her dog. Wherever Leona is now, I'm sure she's staying nice and warm

All I was trying to say is this lady was known for her short temper and treating people as though they were lower than slime. I don't know her but by all accounts, she was not a person who many people liked. Yet despite this nasty callous woman, she was probably very nice to her dog who in turn did not have the brain capacity to understand what kind of person she was to other people but only reciprocated the love unconditionally for her owner.

I don't believe it's possible for human beings to have unconditional love for other human beings with the exception of your children. If someone can honestly say they have unconditional love for their spouse, significant other, parents, or any other human being on the planet with the exception of their children, I salute you because I don't think it is humanly possible.
