this was always my favorite halloween story. I love the headless horseman totally creepy."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came." -
I am actually working on a Custom headless Horseman that I hope will serve as a prototype for the megolike line I have been working on. I should be able to post pics in the finished customs section soon. Yes The legend of Sleepy Hollow is also one of my all-time favs.In The " Real World " Vampires Do Not Sparkle. They Burn In the Sun !

Since when is it banned? I just bought it on DVD from the Disney Club. It comes from the movie "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" but I didn't know that for years. I assumed it was a longer Disney short, since I saw it for years on the annual Disney Halloween specials. I miss those. They'd show the "Night on Bald Mountain" segment of Fantastia, the REALLY old dancing skeletons short, part of Snow White with the Queen/Witch, and a Donald cartoon with Huey, Duey and Luey and a witch.

I have this on DVD as well. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite "scary" stories and I'm trying to get my son into it but he's still a little afraid of the Headless Horseman. The Horseman's laugh is pretty awesome. I never cared for Ichabod and I watch the show just waiting for the Headless Horseman to show up. That's when the story gets good.

I seem to remember occasionally seeing a short clip of the headless horseman at the beginning of something Disney related and every time I did, I'd find myself standing up in excitement. What a great animated feature. To this day, I love the character and there's even an episode of Little House on the Prairie where he makes a cameo appearance when Laura is scared. There's not enough headless action in the entertainment world.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is one of my favorite stories, I've read it a four or five times. I like the Bing Crosby Disney version, and there's been a number of pretty decent film adaptions (the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp movie NOT being one of them- ugh!).
I got interested in the story by one of those "Famous Classic Tales" Hanna-Barbera cartoons that ran on Saturday afternoons in the '70s. Not the best animation, but I really looked forward to seeing those. There were quite a few of them, I recall a Davy Crockett one, Christmas Carol, Three Musketeeers, Robin Hood, Ivanhoe. I think most of them are out there on those $1.00 store dvds.Comment

There's a very good version on "On Demand" now. I think it's called "Sleepy Hollow" or "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". But it is very much, like the way it was originally written. When I first located it, the detals said "actors not available:. I think from 1998 or so. My wife said, "we saw that!". She and I were both confusing it with the Tim Burton one. Which, I wanted to see a true Washington Irving version. And this was it. Very good version. Check it out on Comcast, On Demand.

Toward the end, my wife said, "I don't like that Ichabod, he's not a very nice person". And I said, "Exactly, the kind of guy who could lose his head and you wouldn't care much!"
Tim Burton should try to do a film like this. It might just work. Not that I didn't like his version, but I prefer originals. Again, not that his version isn't original. It is. but HE didn't write the story. He reworked it. Even the Disney toon is closer to original than the Burton rewrite.
Since I'm on the topic too. I have to get Nightmare before Christmas and The Corpse Bride out to watch with the family..Truly original Burton classics!Last edited by hobub; Oct 17, '09, 11:22 AM.Comment
