I happened to be checking my email this morning and received what looked like an emergency message from some parents of girls that played on daughter's soccer game two years ago, stating that they were travelling in the U.K., had been mugged, and were writing their friends to lend some money to get them back to the States. It was even signed with both of their names.
I see them occassionally but haven't exchanged emails since then so I decided I would call them.
Sure enough he answers and is aware of the scam. He said someone hijacked his wife's facebook account and somehow obtained his email and password. They proceeded to send this message out to everyone in their contact list including me.
The thing that seemed very odd was the sentence structure didn't look quite right and the message was very vague which made me suspicious but thought I'd call to make sure just in case I was wrong.
Be careful...since everyone is on to the Nigerian letters, this looks like the next wave to hit.
