    And yet another scam

I happened to be checking my email this morning and received what looked like an emergency message from some parents of girls that played on daughter's soccer game two years ago, stating that they were travelling in the U.K., had been mugged, and were writing their friends to lend some money to get them back to the States. It was even signed with both of their names.

I see them occassionally but haven't exchanged emails since then so I decided I would call them.

Sure enough he answers and is aware of the scam. He said someone hijacked his wife's facebook account and somehow obtained his email and password. They proceeded to send this message out to everyone in their contact list including me.

The thing that seemed very odd was the sentence structure didn't look quite right and the message was very vague which made me suspicious but thought I'd call to make sure just in case I was wrong.

Be careful...since everyone is on to the Nigerian letters, this looks like the next wave to hit.

Scammers are the low of the low. I'm getting sick of someone taking from others because they are too lazy to get a job. Prosecute them fully.

Another one is about some dead general in the middle east and looking for his relatives. Same sort of thing as the Nigerian scam. If someone is really dumb enough to just send money to this sort of thing without thoroughly checking it out, then the heck with them.

Thanks for the heads up, my FB accnt was jacked but they just posted some virus encoded videos, no real damage. It's a good idea to change you p-word on there often.

That's another reason I try to steer clear of sites like Facebook,MySpace and so on.

A friend of mine got this scam last week but she caught it and wasn't fooled.

So, it is getting around bigtime.

I've got something similar going on which started this morning. I got an email from my own email address to my email address. Now knowing I didn't send myself a spam email for prescription drugs something weird is going on. My room-mate just tried to send me an email and got it returned saying my mailbox is full, which it isn't. So I have no clue at the moment. I just changed my AOL password just in case but he still can't get his email through... and yet I am still receiving spam emails without a problem.

I also logged into Facebook yesterday which I had not done in a couple of weeks. So now I'm wondering if there's a connection to all this. The last time I logged into Facebook I got bombarded with emails with that "RETURNED MAILER DEMENON" thing. I had to set up a block just to get them to stop coming every minute. I have had the same email address since 1993 so I'm a little disgusted by all this.

I recently dumped my eBay and main email account because, low and behold, a facebook account was set up in my name with my email account (that was tied to my eBay account). I started getting all of these friend requests (from people I know) sent to my email account, but I'm not a facebook kind of dude. Wasn't me that set it up, so I can see this happening a lot.
