OK guys, we're all about the same age...

Have you had the "your 40...time to think about having a colonocopy(SP?)?

I just had one scheduled for the 22nd...not happy about it to say the least. Anyone have any experiances? I've heard it's no big deal your knocked out won't feel a thing...

I think we recently had a thread about this as someone here just had one. I had one a few years ago, and it's no big deal at all. The worst part is the prep. I couldn't eat anything solid for two days, and the night before the procedure I had to drink something that completely cleans you out. Let's just say that be prepared to spend a couple hours on the toilet. The day of the procedure, they hooked me up to an IV with some kind of sedative. I wasn't out cold, but time seemed to go really fast, I can't remember much, but I was awake. The only discomfort I remember is that they had to blow air so they could see in the "corners". It felt like a bad gas cramp, but it was brief. I'm sure others experiences may vary, and some may get sedated more than I was, but really it wasn't bad at all, and the next time I have to go, I will do so with no hesitation. It's far far better than the alternatives that could possibly happen if you don't get checked out.

Well I'm not 40 yet, but I had one earlier this year. Yeah, the prep is the worst of it. The stuff you gotta drink the night before is NASTY!!!!!! And you gotta guzzle it like a quart every 1/2 hour. Of course there are different preps out there. you may get a different type, but one things for sure - it will clean you out!!! The actual procedure is no big deal. Your sedated enough that you won't feel a thing. I kinda dozed off, then remember being half out of it and looking up and seeing my "innards" up on the screen.

Life is life, deal with it.
Had an exam in my twenties, it was humbling to say the least.
Stomach problems for months until my boss made me go. I thought I'd be cute and lace up the gown backwards, then got bored waiting for the doctor to show up so I laid down on the table. Ended up being a female doc, I said "I thought you stood me up" she trumped that with, "on your side, knees to your chest."

The crap you drink to clean your colen is the worse part. I had one before they removed about a foot of my colon.

I don't have a colon...therefore no need for colonoscopies for me.

Before my colon was taken out...I had a colonoscopy done...the actual procedure was a little uncomfortable...but not too bad.

Drinking that horrible liquid to clean your colon beforehand...now that's truly horrible.

I was 27 when I had my first one done.Doctors thought I had any sign of colon cancer.I was worried as hell because how young I am!The day before you have to drink that solution that they give you, pretty much just cleans you out. That stuff nasty also and gets annoying after a while but be ready to drink up! But overall good to have done for your benefit. But once they hit you with the gas your out.Afterwards I thought that I would feel some kind of pain but nothing. It seems like it happened so fast as well.So good luck and hope that it all goes with you.

Just had my second. Prep is worst part. Ask about the Gatorade/Miralax/Ducolax prep. I put mine in Minutemaid Lemonade Light and had no problem drinking the stuff. Go lytely made me puke my guts out!

                    http://www.batesvillesurgery.com/pdf/gatorade.pdf

I started a liquid diet to nights before and the prep at 9 AM the day before ( instead of 3 PM). Gotta stay near the bathroom all day!

                    No cramping or puking!
Too many toys. Not enough space!

Just had mine last month - POSITIVELY NO BIG DEAL. Now, the stories you've heard about the stuff you drink...even less of a big deal. Go to Walgreens or CVS and get three bottles (it will be on your instruction sheet they give you at the office). They look like little coke bottles and come in different flavors. I chose grape and I have to tell you it taste almost like a freakin' wine cooler. Now I have an office at home so I was able to work and do this unlike most folks. If you have to report to work, then you need to schedule this day off because you'll be on the ivory throne frequently. For myself I didn't go as much as I thought, but it was more than enough to warrant being at home, no question. The procedure itself is not anything you'll remember. I was wheeled back and was told to turn to my left side. I blinked twice and literally woke up in another room with my wife. No heavy eyelids before going out, no nothing. It's as if that part of my memory was edited out. It's over. Your done. Now they tell you to go home and get some rest, which you will...but me? No. I told my wife to take me to a restaurant and get me some food. I was seriously hungry. Afterwards I crashed. You also get the results when your waking up, so there's no waiting. Mine was perfect and I have complete confidence you'll do equally as well. I also talked about it here just before going in and I got alot of support. It made me feel alot better going in. So now it's my turn. DON'T worry. Wasted energy my friend. It's no biggie and you'll be fine. Take care!

I heard that you're suppose to have it done at 50...so I'm about 6 years away from my Annal probing.

I heard 50 as well but have now heard they changed it to forty.
I'm thirty-seven so three years to go but then again maybe I'll give myself an early birthday present and go at thirty-eight.I like things to be on my terms not theirs...
Plus my wife thinks I should go as soon as possible just to be safe.
Plus having a son I want him to grow up thinking it's no big deal and just another part of the yearly physical when you are older. These things were just not talked about when we all grew up.
Remember the the last add campaign push... Don't die from em-bare-***-ment.

Good luck hope it all turns out well for you keep us posted.

I had one done about two months ago. I'm 43, but the doctor ordered it because I have very low Iron in my blood and they can never figure out why. The worst part is that liquid you drink the day before. Nothing turned up. So, I just keep taking my Iron supplements. You'll be glad to get it over. Hope the test turns up a clean bill of health for you.
