I THINK it's "the dessicated remains of the original spouses," but I'm not sure....
Perhaps the original Mrs. Brady.....but Carol Brady was divorced from her 1st husband (Mr. Martin), not widowed......

Says her.... wait for the dark, gritty remake. Wait; didn't they do that already? Wasn't one of the reunion movies pretty bleak?

I don't believe there was ever a reason given for the end of Mrs. Brady's first marriage (which is why they built a whole story line in the Brady Bunch Movie Sequel).

With Mr. Brady; he was a widower which was mentioned or at least implied in the pilot episode.

I think Sherwood Schwartz always intended for her to be divorced but the network wouldn't let them mention the fact....that's why it was never explicitly stated in the TV show.

And for a time there, I remember one of the cuts made for commercials during the syndicated rerun era was the scene where Bobby takes down his (deceased) mother's picture because he doesn't want to upset the new mom.

What's "bleak" about Bobby Brady becoming a parapalegic?

                Picky, picky.

It was The Bradys hour long dramedy on CBS....I think they also touched on Marcia's alcoholism and Jan's inability to concieve....it didn't last very long....

Yeah, "The Bradys" was just bizarre. I think it spun off of that semi-serious holiday movie they did a few years prior. The ratings were great, and someone saw $$$. But to think they could sustain it seemed odd. It's almost like making a life-action drama out of the Flintstones.

Come to think of it; I do remember seeing an interview with Sherwood Schwartz and he did say that he wanted her to be divorced but the network didn't want to make it explicit.

Was this something seperate from the Brady Brides? I do remember a few reunion show but nothing about Marcia's alcoholism.

As a side note, did anyone read Maureen McCormick's book that came out about a year ago? It's a good read. She really did have drug and alcohol problems. Lot's of stories about growing up on the Brady bunch set and it does appear that what Barry Williams said about the two of them being romantically involved was true.

Did the last one had to do with Bobby's race car driving career?

I know it was mentioned in A Very Brady Christmas but seem to remember this one.

Also, are the Brady Brides out on DVD? I seem to think The Brady 500 movie might be on the Brady Collection DVD which has every episode of the Brady Bunch, A Very Brady Christmas, two of the cartoons and mayb the Brady 500 movie.

I also understand that Susan Olsen also released a Brady Bunch book herself recently.

Yes, The Brady 500 deals with Bobby's race car accident, which is then carried over to the Bradys series when he's in a wheelchair (actually the Brady 500 movie is the pilot/1st episode I think)
