One of our top athletes, a cyclist, has been caught using drugs twice now.
Anyone else would go to jail, and certainly be banned from sports, but no, most people applaud him and he's competing again.
He also walked away from a restaurant without paying.
Yeah, it's a fair world.
while using drugs is illegal in the US the focus of criminal action is buying and selling them not the act of getting high (when ann addict passes out in the street they are sent to the hospital not jail)
In the us we had a baseball player in the 80's named Dwight Gooden. I won't go into details here but even MLB didn't ban him for his addiction. All his legal issues were from actions he did while high not gettng high
Here is the wiki article
Dwight Gooden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
drug addiction is viewed as self destructive and not a legal issue until that person tries to purchase the drug illegally or gets in a car under the influence(like stalworth's drinking)

Its all a rather moot point. If you are wealthy, can act, dance, sing, or play ball - you will receive minimal punishment (if any) and Americans will forgive you, no matter what the crime. Kinda sad really. No crime is too great, no action so loathesome, no lack of character or ethics so monstrous that these people can't come back as if nothing had happened. Sigh.___________________________________
