see, i can't see why parents won't remove the screamning kid from a restaurant. I can see a mcdonalds but even a Friendlies, I pay to eat my meal in peace, not have a kid screaming or going table to table as the parents carry on like nothing is happeneing.
i was at a bugaboo creak not long ago and a table had 2 parents 4 kids, one in a chair. the oldest maybe 5 was running around and tripped a waiter carrying food( our food mind you). the manager come over and asked them to leave, they would box the dinners up and there'd be no charge.
to me those parents weren't thinking right, you can't go out to a sit down dinner with 4 kidsunder 10 and not expect to affect the other diners there to have a good time.
now i know i'm child free and I don't get it.the parents have rights to go eat there as much as me. but you can't tell me that common snese says leave the kids at home with a sitter.
I agree with you Chris. I try not to ruin anyone's meal with screaming kids. I don't even carry my children to the movies unless it's a kids movie. Nothing I hate more than to go see a movie that is not " kid" appropraite and someone has young kids there. I have been known to tell all ages at theaters to shut up.
Kids freak out. My daughter, who is 21 months old, is usually very well behaved in restaurants. She wasn't last week. We stopped for dinner at the local pizzaria and she went ballistic after we ordered our food. She did not want to be there. After trying to get her to calm down for some time, we finally gave up, boxed up our food and left. We didn't want to ruin anyone else's dinner.
It's easy to get frustrated by a screaming kid. Before I had kids I was a lot less understanding, and obviously, some parents don't give a crap if their kid is causing a ruckus or not.
BUT, if anyone EVER came up and slapped my kids, they'd never be able to testify in court due to my boot being stuck in their mouth by way of their arse.
I do agree that this is the sort of thing most folks have WANTED to do, but don't. For various reasons. From what I've seen there really isn't too much you can do about a bawling 2 year old. (A BIG part of why I don't like kids.) We all just have to suck it up. (I'd suspect that hitting them would just make it worse....)
but we live in hope that parents will be considerate of others in place like movie theaters.
I hear ya man......One thing about movie theaters is you can complain cause you are a paying customer in a place where there is supposed to be silence.
Funny I go to the Library a lot with my two year old and before we get there I go over and over with her the rules about being quiet and not acting up. She follows it to a T but, I can not believe how incredibly loud libraries are now. I see kids just acting the fool screaming and shouting at the top of their lungs and no one does anything about it......
Ok , i had a temper tantrum in a store as a child and got on the backside right there and then. it was allow 40 years ago. 13 years ago my 3 year old nephew started screaming for something and my sister had me take him out of the store while she bought her items, including one he wanted but not both. so here i am in the middle of the mall with a crying child and ebveryone looking at me like " what is he doing to that kid"! the answer, holding a beloved nephew who wouldn't calm down. thankfully that was the worst he ever got and is a great kid and my buddy to this day.
times and mores may change, but i far as i know hitting someone's kid has always been wrong. unfortunately today more and more people are not trying to be "good" parents. they are woried about themselves or not teaching thier children how to be considerate of others. and that is how we get noisy kids in public places. but since all kids scream sometime there is no way to avoid the situation. but we live in hope that parents will be considerate of others in place like movie theaters.
I was lucky...I don't remember my kids ever having a temper tantrum. The flash of anger in my eyes usually did the trick. And they ALWAYS behave at the store...sure, they could be excited and be loud and you could hear them from three aisles over, but not because they are whiney or crying, but because they are excited about life, or excited about whatever's on the shelf. And when we are in line the strangers always tell me, "My, what behaved young men you have." Damned straight, they better be!
Whining in public is not acceptable behavior and is punishable by a toy tax. I am the Law.
Well, my nieces are well parented and hence, don't have loud meltdowns in general...
That out of the way, two things really bother me about this...
1) I really have to ask if this Sextegenarian ***hat would have done the same thing if the conversation had happened with the father instead of "just" the mother. A lot of men suffer under this idea that there is a distinct subclass of homosapien and it's species is female. I predict he was showing 'them woman-folk what for!' and frankly I hope he breaks his idiot hip in jail and dies from a painful bone infection.
2) The mother forgiving the ****head. Who is looking out for that child? Who is raising that child? Who is protecting that child?
I don't understand people who only have one tool in their kit, and decide that slapping/hitting/punching a problem is the best and only path to solution. Now, I freely admit that if someone had hit one of my nieces like that I would have put a fist in their face hard. It really wouldn't matter if they'd come in from muscle beach or the retirement home, it would just be instinctive reaction on my part. Whether I ended up in the hospital on an iron lung or I killed grandpa because of his weak heart wouldn't matter... But in situations that aren't fight or flee? Hitting something small is neither manly nor parenting... it just makes that person the subhuman by choice and action.
Numerous posts have said they would have attacked the man and even killed him. Where do you think that would have got you? You would now be in prison and the kid would be all alone.
Oops...I just read your post...you are absolutely right my friend.
If you were the parent...and that old geezer would've slapped your child...think again about talking about killing him...not only would you suffer in return...but the child would be the one who stands to loose the most....he/she would lose YOU.
Kick that old geezer's arse...but don't kill him...you'd be making the biggest mistake of your life.
I'm sure it's just tough talk though...but I'm just saying.
