If this were more than an isolated incident I could see the uproar. Luckily it seems as though the outbreak of Geezer Smacking Baby Syndrome has been located and successfully quarantined in a Walmart, go figure.Leave a comment:

A crying baby is like a barking dog.
They both wont stop unless you appease them in some way or ignore them and let them yack themselves until their throat goes horse.
It sounds like this is what the mother was attempting -- but it's not a good idea to go this route in public.
I have sympathy for people that have to be around crying babies that are not their own.
Sometimes a constant crying baby (that is not your own) in a public place is almost enough to make a person go mad after an extended time.
Almost .....
A person that reacts violently to this is clearly above the almost scale -- and was probably violent long before.
My sympathies in this situation only lie with the baby.Leave a comment:

Discipline, in whatever form or generation, should only be administered from the child's parents or guardians (depending on the situation). Anyone who would dare lay a hand on my kids would not be breathing. That guy is an idiot.Leave a comment:

Hey come on what was he thinking, the kid was crying, did he really think, that by slapping the kid, he would stop crying, Im sure it even became louder, he shouldve just stuffed a lolipop into the kids mouthLeave a comment:

An earlier post had the right answer, he should have slapped the mother.
Numerous posts have said they would have attacked the man and even killed him. Where do you think that would have got you? You would now be in prison and the kid would be all alone.Leave a comment:

I have to admit I would totally lose the plot if someone slapped one of my nieces or nephews...they would get a lot more than a slap from me.
He's not even that old...he's only 61.
He even looks like a cranky ****:
Video
and he twitches his nose like he is practising for a role in Planet of the Apes too.Last edited by SlipperyLilSuckers; Sep 5, '09, 8:38 PM.Leave a comment:

My guess is the guy's response was to a lack of effort by the parent to comfort the child. As a parent, I've had a kid start to go a little crazy in a situation and removed him from it. I've seen parents have children in the same situation and watched them try to handle the situation. I've also seen parents totally ignore the situation, and that makes me, even as a parent, irritated. But that's on the parent, not the child, and if that was the case, a slap to the face of the parent could have it's appeal. However, if I were in the shoes of the parent here and someone slapped my child for acting up, no matter the situation, they would have to PULL me off the person who did it. I think I'd lose my mind on the guy. I doubt the guy would have pulled that stunt if the parent present was the father, though. He sounds like the type that likes to push women around as well.
