If this had happened when Eisner was still in charge I would be very worried. However I think Disney has been on the road back since they put Lasseter of Pixar in charge of animation and general creative.
I think there could be some pretty cool stuff to come from it. The creativity of the Pixar crew let loose on the Marvel universe...
What surprises me here is marvel was smart enough to not sell off the rights at the start of their “movie making” journey and instead hired a production company to film at a flat rate and held on to all the profits including merchandising. Now besides a clunker or two this has been very profitable for Marvel I mean besides Titanic I believe Spiderman still holds the highest grossing title record for a long weekend.
So imo even the big companies are not looking long term just what they can get here and now! In the long run this mentality can only be bad for our economy and country.
When the ink is dry universal will be f'd they are going to have to reflag all those marvel attraction rides as the current contracts expire (you know the new owner aint going to renew those deals sicne they are just up the road in ormando and LA. Disney will also have to work the new angle into an already full footprint in thier park at disney mgm
so long as they don't start pumping out disney chanel stars into marvel comics propety movies I am ok with it
That seemed to come out of left field, but when I think about it, it is a smart move for Disney. They have the girls market all sewn up with stuff like the Disney Princess stuff, Hanna Montana and High School Musical, but they are definitely lacking a similar strong presence in the boys market. Having access to all the Marvel characters will help this.
From what I've read, Marvel will continue to honour existing contracts with other movie studios, etc until they expire.
I really hope Disney doesn't meddle too much. I really don't want to see Wolverine eating candy canes instead of cigars, and teaching orphans to read. not to mention zack efron would be a terrible iron fist.
I was thinking the same thing. It's by far my favorite part of Universal Studios. Wouldn't it be a riot if DC stepped in and replaced the rides with DC characters. With the bad situation the Six Flags parks seem to be in, I would have to think it may be possible. I would have to think DC would love to make a splash like that for publicity, and with the Potter attraction opening in 2010 Universal should be getting a lot of visitors then as well. I know were already planning on being there as soon as the official date is all set, and we know it's gonna be open.
it would be bAD ** to see some DC characters in there
Does that mean we're gonna sees ome cross polination here? Mickey's a mutant. Minnie will die and come back every year or so. They'll detail Donald's drinking problem, and someone will find Clarabelle frozen in a block of ice somewhere.
Or maybe it'll go the other way; Magneto will learn about sharing.... stories featuring Juggernaut "the mutant of little brain." "Steamboat Spidey." Wolverine wearing a promise ring....
This could actually turn out to be a good thing. It would be nice to see the Marvel characters and comics become a bit less dark and more kid friendly again.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
