Why is Ford the only American car company not in the hole?

I had a 88 1/2 escort GT that ran forever until a tree fell on the front hood, and someone rear ended it a few days later for an insurance scam. I now drive a 99 taurus, which I have owned since 2001. so far this year I had to change one windshield wiper, and a fan belt.
My next car will be a Ford.

I may be a bit biased as I work for Ford but I have worked on plenty of those super dutys and have seen many with 200,000, 300,000 miles on them and still going. My 1989 Crown Victoria wagon has 180,000 miles on it and I drive it every day to work and I get almost 20 MPG with it regularly...with the a/c on! 5.0L 302

Like I said, except for the Cobra or the FORD GT (which i could never afford) I would'nt waste my money. I'd take a Z-28 over a Mustang GT any day

That is very reassuring to know though regarding the super duty's lasting that long. It must be pretty true then from what I keep hearing.

I totally forgot all about those trucks. I do not see many of them around on the highways. Maybe it is the price? Maybe it is the gas mileage for some? OR Maybe a bit of both???

In answer to the question regarding the actual thread topic. I would say the main reason that Ford is not in the hole right now vs. "the other guys" is that Ford was better at fudging the books then they were.

Kind of like another Madoff just waiting to explode with guilt some day.
