Why is Ford the only American car company not in the hole?

    ...and actually making profit?

Because they make the BEST damn trucks on the planet...that's why...

    YOU BETCHA!
    Rich

You should see the all-new Ford Taurus. It's SWEET!
    I just saw one yesterday.
The 2010 Mustang is incredible, too! Brought back the sequential taillights for that!

No, sold Jaguar to the Indians (India Indians) so I'd be wary of buying one now.

I believe Volvo is still a part of the Ford company.

I'm pretty sure land Rover went with Jaguar as well and I think Aston Martin.

Ford mortgaged everything and anything heavily when they saw the first signs of the impending recession. This gave them some cash to play with during the downtime. Problem is, they have to pay the mortgages back and so far, they have only had ONE profitable month in years. In short, thay avoided the Gov't loan syndrome, but they are still in hock up to their eyeballs!!

Plus, and this was revealed last fall. The Ford family only own a small percentage of the company stocks. The only advantage they have is their stock is preferred and gives the family veto power. In other words, they dont own a majority of the company, but as long as they hold even a handfull of their special stock, they run the show. When the big three were sniffing out their options with the American and Canadian Governments last fall, Ford was told the Ford family would have to give up their special stock priveldges if they wanted Governement money. The Ford family said NO!!!!!, Mulhally mortgaged everything, and away they went.

They also managed to sell Jag and Land Rover to TaTa, and are trying to sell Volvo as well. They also sold a majority of Mazda back to Mazda. All of these moves gave them a bit of a lifeline during all this.

Chrysler, who had a 10 billion dollar stock pile in their rainy day fund before Daimler came along, were stripped clean by the "Fatherland" and left to twist in the wind...They had no choice to do anything other than what they did.

General Motors..?? Well, the General was just poorly run....for decades. They nearly went bankrupt in 1992, and should have learned their lesson then. Any company that large, that owns that much of the market, and still cant make money....? That signifies to me a huge messed up corporation that doesnt know how to handle itself. Hopefully this time they have learned better....but I doubt it!!

maybe in florida ... but get them out working, pulling, hauling over hills and rough mud roads ... man Ford has them GM products beat.

sorry chevy guys ... but it's true, I've driven pickups of all kinds and in all types of areas ... give me a Ford!

I will give Chevy the edge on a nice smooth ride over a paved highway ... but that's nothing to brag about when it's a pickup ment to do more than drive down a highway

really? around here the Dodge trucks are the ones that blow out their trannies and the GMs love to over heat.

Oh no...here comes the mechanic said part...

This wasn't a test of suspensions or trannys...it was a test of the back bone of a truck, THE FRAME!!!!!!

Ever seen the frame on an F150?

It is fully boxed and rock solid, that's is what separates a good truck from a great truck.

Hec, I think you missed your true calling my friend. You should have been a sales manager for Ford.

Being a GM man that I am....(Trans AM/Camaro just to name a couple real quick) Personally for me I am down on the old Fords because I have seen and heard too many problems with them back in the 80's and 90's. Grant it we are no longer in the 80's or 90's any more. My Grandfather was a "Ford man" and he was constantly working on them. (that is never a good sign) Depending on the Ford model that one owned back at around that time most (not ALL) of the models were notorious for bad AC, transmissions bad paint. Those would be the first things to go. Now of course I do realize that there are lemons in every line. So don't light your torches just yet Ford fans. LOL!!

I am really undecided at this point with the new Ford products. Having not owned any of them due to reasons stated above. It is possible that Ford could now have their act together and their cars and or trucks are much better now than what they once used to be. ?????? After all of these years I would sincerely hope that would be the case anyway. I just do not want to be their guinea pig and find out the hard way.

I have been trying to decide on an SUV lately. One of the SUV's (if you will) that I am "thinking" about is the Ford F350 dually Lariat crew cab diesel 4X4. I have been reading about these and it has been stated that these trucks can go at or up to around 400K miles. If that is true then that is really great. Anyone have any experience with one? I will have to say that although I am not a huge Ford fan this is a sweet looking truck. If it does what has been said it would really be awesome.

I seen a really sweet Cheverolet truck Z71 4X4 four door V8 for sale the other day at the dealer ship. All the bells and whistles and then some. BIG lift done right, BIG tires. This truck is a monster. It was a bit of a struggle getting up into the cab of this monster. I am obviously not used to owning vehicles that set this high in the air.

Other models I was intersted in and looked at was the:

H3 - a bit smaller than what I like. Looks like a toy and only has a v5 for an engine. Not much balls of an engine for me.

H2 - nice. I have had one before. Liked everything about it except for of course the gas mileage. Not real roomy/comfortable. Does kind of sit a "little" low. Not bad though. Nothing a set of 22's wouldn't fix.

Escalade ESV - I like Cadillac because it is luxorious and I have had no issues with Caddy in the past. This SUV has great looks. However, with the ground effects it sits a bit low compare to the other SUV's I have been looking at. IF I should decide to stay a winter here in the midwest I want something that will crush the snow and not just push it along.

Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - nice little SUV for the buck with the V8 engine. Not super stylish for me. I like to arrive and make a grand entrance while making a statement.

Anywho...that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Still trying to decide on What do do. ???????

In closing the only good thing that I really have to save about Ford at this time as far as I am concerned is that they are making some really nice looking body styles. And the F350 if it does what it is said to really do sounds pretty awesome.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
