I also loved the fact that they used the "correct" languages.
Germans amongst themselves would speak German, right?

Not like in older movies, where they all spoke English (or English with a horrid German accent).
The accents were perfect, even for people that actually speak the languages concerned.

And Pitt speaking Italian with a Southern accent was great!

That goes for the French dialogue as well.

That's why Valkyrie with Tom Cruise did NOT work...I just couldn't accept Nazis speaking English...not believable.

It's ok for an ancient epic though...like Gladiator...I doubt too many people go around speaking Latin all the time...lol.

I loved this Movie...despite the slow parts(and there were some slow parts)...but when Brad Pitt & The Basterds are on screen...it's AWESOME! Pitt TOTALLY steals the Movie...he's a RIOT, and is obviously having a blast with the role. The second story slows the movie down a bit too much...and leaves me wanting to see more of "The Basterds".

So my one complaint would be...that the BASTERDS weren't in their own Movie enough.

I agree, they should've come out more and Pitt was awesome...But I didn't like the film as much

I didn't find ANY parts "slow" as the script was engaging and tight---
I've seen recent action movies (Nolan Batman, First Flight wink-wink) that
seemed to move slower DESPITE more "action" sequences-----why?
Because the scripts weren't as beautifully rendered.

I finally got a chance to see the film this past weekend. I liked it a lot but didn't love it (which is usually the case with QT films for me). My friend who saw it with me hated it though. He liked the beginning and end but thought the middle was tremendously slow. That kind of thing doesn't bother me, I'm not the kind of person who needs action scenes every five minutes. It's nice to just let a film breathe and take it's time, rather than rushing through everything to cater to audiences that have increasingly shorter attention spans. Actually, Tarantino wanted this film to be kind of like an Italian exploitation film on one level, and I've seen plenty such films that like this are extremely violent, but with a lot of slower scenes too, so in that way, Tarantino captured that feel. All in all, an engrossing, entertaining film from one of my favourite directors.

Absolutely, he was one of my favourite things about this film. If he isn't at least nominated, something is wrong.

I wonder what IG's numbers will be like.

Since AVP2 was a 16 flick. This is coming out in Poland this weekend, so definately of to see it.

I might be going to see it thursday with my wife. I saw an interview with qt were he says there is a scene in this movie that is his single best moment in film making. that alone would get me in a seat.

But it's ok if he says "Inglourious Basterds".

But seriously, there's been several movies with the word in the title, including one that has the correct spelling of the above. There was even a 1978 TV movie with the word in the title, so I guess it isn't considered too bad.

Let's face it: we see more than a fair share of violence and sex on TV.
Even Batman graphically beats the crap out of his enemies.
Rappers say things like "smack my bi**h up".

When you add all that up, the word basterds isn't all that bad, IMO.

Back in the 70's there was a mini series on American network TV called The Basterd

If it was ok for 70's prime-time network television, why is it such a bad word today ?
