Ah good point, I didn't think about that. Kind of crappy for them to do that, but it really doesn't surprise me.Comment

This is KISS. Heck anyone else with their "bring back Peter and Ace" comments...
They did it in a reunion tour up to the 2000 and something Final Tour and it is done. Peter and Ace were just two pawns that got caught up with the fame of the band and they got lucky.
They eventually hung themselves with their own chemical shenanigans.
Lets get back to being KISS!
KISS is not about these two drunks. It's about Gene and Paul and it always has been.
Some people are just finding out about Anton Fig and Bob Kulick playing Ace and Peter's parts in the 70s on the studio albums because they were too drunk or high to play...
Oh. You think KISS ALIVE I and II was about how good Peter and Ace were?
Wrong again! They had to bring in Anton Fig (drummer) to over dubbed parts on the drum tracks so that the drum solo that was pasted together from various shows so it didn't sound like ***. Same with some of Ace Frehley's leads. Bob Kulick (Bruce's bald and better brother) got paid a lot of money to fix Ace's guitar screw ups!!
The crowd was overdubbed in sections from live screams from Woodstock.
The talented KISS is back! I am so stoked! I am a big fan of non Ace and Peter albums like Revenge, Carnival Of Souls, Hot In The Shade, Asylum, Kiss Alive III, Animalize...etc.
Did you know that Tommy Thayer (who is the Spaceman now) was Ace Frehley's guitar tech and had to show Ace how to replay his own solos? Doesn't that tell you something? When Ace finally exited KISS, Tommy was the perfect choice for Spaceman.
Oh by the way, I am writing for the Torture Chamber again. I get to chew on rock subjects like this. Anyone want a subscription PM me your address and I'll have Marty send you a copy of the rag mag.
Or another good place to good is my friend Kerry's Rockin Rebels site. He is also a member here and he may very well chew my *** about the Ace Frehley digs if he sees this.

Well to be entirely honest, any album from the 70's could be said to be a non Ace and Peter effort in some respects. Now while I wouldn't disagree with anything you've said Wrathdemon, let's not fall completely off the other side of reason and suggest Gene and Paul 'did it all' either. The spectre of Kiss as we know it is truly the result of Bill Aucoin's ideas. He took four talented musicians and molded them into an incredibly stunning visual that carried them through the 70's. Aucoin purposely sought out Bob Ezrin to give them a definable image in the same vein Ezrin did for Alice Cooper on his first solo album in 1975 entitled "Welcome to my Nightmare". It was Aucoin's idea to hide their identities. It was Aucoin's idea to market them as more than a band. And it was Aucoin who told Kiss they needed a rallying song for their fans to identify with, which gave birth to Rock n'Roll all nite. Peter's song "Beth" launched Kiss into orbit and made them a household name by showing the "commercial" side to Kiss. Many future guitarists picked up their craft because of Ace during those days as well. And while Ace may not have been the star in the studio, no one can deny his notes on stage. So it all counts. Gene and Paul took Bill Aucoin's blueprint and have steered this juggernaut ever since and deserve loads of credit (Paul more than Gene). But in the end, KISS is and will always be a collaborative effort. Paul is producing this new record, so it will live or die by his lead. I have alot of confidence he'll give us a good record.

I don't usually "pimp myself out" here in Mego-land---but this is more a
"KISS project" than a "huedell" project...yeah, Gene would love that I'm working for him to promote HIS band
Rock on guys."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Just out of curiosity. What was KISS' newest album when you first became a fan? For me, it was ALIVE! (1975).Comment

Same here. When Alive came out, one of my best friends picked it up and we listened to it all weekend. Most people can't relate, but their image mixed with that music in the mid-70's was like the Who's Tommy meets the universal monsters. Kiss were very edgy in the early and mid-70's for their appearance. It was theater and grand scale rock at it's finest. I've been hooked ever since.Last edited by MIB41; Aug 17, '09, 3:09 PM.Comment

The over the top comic book appeal was fantastic for me at the time. Tho I didn't really 'get' most of the sly undertones (yeah, right) until much later. I just liked the rock theater.
I was brought on board by a friend's older brother who showed me the cover to Dressed to Kill and let us hang out in his room while the record played. Later on, he loaned me the first three records and my pop recorded them onto cassette on the GINORMOUS deck he had hooked up to our HiFi. My pop was always wanting to be cutting edge with his entertainment. The records were from the Originals set, which is probably a good thing as I know my mom thought it was a bad idea for me to listen to those guys and if she had seen the Hotter than Hell cover, it would have been over before it even started. As it was, there was a picture of Gene with a tuba and they were deemed OK and, I suppose, my folks figgured I wouldn't know what the hell they were singing about anyway. I used to carry those cassettes with me and play them on one of those mono portable players with the built in speaker - about the size of a shoebox. I recall having arguments with kids at the playground about who was better Elvis or Kiss. That was first and second grade for me.
