If your show was science fiction based, McDowall had to be a mad scientist preferably with androids.

McDowall was great on Columbo too.

His character must have been written just for him.

He was great on Fantastic Journey as Dr. Willoway, starting out in "Doctor Smith" mode and then making his character a reluctant hero. It was rare to have character development like that.
