I think WWI and WWII are pretty far up there on the list. Although the internet seems big now, there were other huge steps along the way. Radio, film, television, calculators, printing press and telephone were all huge inventions for their time and all contributed to us having the internet now. I don’t know if 100 years from now, people will think of the internet as being any more important than the others that I listed. Hell, in 100 years, the internet may not even be around. We may have something even more advanced that we can’t even imagine now and people will only be as familiar with the internet in 100 years as people today are familiar with Tintypes (which for their time were probably insanely advanced).

Also, several of the suggestions that have been posted seem to be from a very 'United States' point of view rather than a world point of view. From more of a world point of view, I was thinking that Decolonization would be an important one. I don't think it would be at the top of the list, but maybe in the top 20…probably either just before or just after Sloop John B.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

I guess I should have said Manhattan Project instead of Bikini Island.

Television is the ulimate invention of the century, but event-wise nothing changed the world like the drop of the first A-bomb.
