Agreed on the red card. Technically, his cleats were up but they went itno the ball. I will say the yellow Spain got was a non-call, also.
I'm just stoked the U.S. is in a final. I ma sooooo glad they did not stop trying to score with a 1-goal lead. Yeah, you get more defensive, but you have to keep on the counter. I am stunned.
I just came back from a local Sports pub and watched Spain just get their butts handed to them by the U.S. This was truly a David taking down Goliath.
The only thing that irritated me was Bradley's red card. Maybe we all see things through our subjective lenses but their seems to be some questionable calls against the U.S. I can understand a penalty and maybe a yellow card but he got all ball. 3 out of 4 games with red cards. The other countries do the exact same thing and I don't see red cards flying out....either way, I'm ecstatic.
The #1 team will most likely emerge from the Confederation Cup as I expect Spain and Brazil to match up against one another for what will be a nice preview to the World Cup.
I wonder if Brazil will call up Ronaldinho for the game since I haven't seen him in any of the Confederation cup games so far.
Right now, Brazil looks like the #1 team in the world despite being ranked #4.
Spain is the best team in the world right now...they are 35-0 since 2006...they are pretty unstoppable right now...they deserve that number one ranking.
But you are right...Brazil always seem to look like the number one team, lol.
Actually Jozy Altidore from the U.S. can be lethal as was evidenced in the game against Egypt.
He didn't score but they were double teaming him. Unfortunately, Brian Ching has been hurt so no other big powerful striker up front.
Altidore can be awesome but his playing is inconsistent. Some days he is all over the place and other times he acts like he would rather be somewhere else.
The lineup from Sunday looked pretty good and although I have always been a bit skeptical of Michael Bradley (since he is the coach's son), he is a really solid midfielder that can play with the best of them.
Exactly. It would be but thats a no win situation for USA. Spain is Untouchable. Nando is a scoring machine. Not to mention all the other Superstars they have
Sammy
Got that right, they have one of the most lethal strike forces bar none (well maybe Brazil) Villa and Torres are unstoppable.
I know Italy and Brazil are powerhouses but they were humiliated by both teams. I realize that the U.S. does not have a soccer culture but it is growing (and we have had a national team since 1913 so it isn't a new sport).
The current group of players are outstanding but they just don't seem to have the skills, creativity, and imagination as Brazil.
With that said, I can't believe they actually squeaked into the semi-finals thanks to Egypt. Who would have thought that Egypt would beat Italy 1-0 and the only way the U.S. would advance was to beat Eqypt by 3 goals and Brazil to beat Italy by 3 goals which is exactly what happened.
It was great to watch them come back from two embarassing matches and take care of Egypt pretty easily.
I know they probably have zero chance of beating Spain but I will at least I'll be happy if they look like a team that belongs there and can keep the score relatively low. If they do win by some chance that would be major.
Right now, Brazil looks like the #1 team in the world despite being ranked #4. The way they beat the U.S. and Italy was incredible. They have a level of skill and creativity that is so far above and beyond any team I have seen play the beautiful game.
The voice of reason...Thanks Thomas. In Italy and Brasil Football/Soccer is a WAY OF LIFE...they eat it, drink it, sleep it, and breathe it. Football/Soccer is Europes equivelent to Baseball here in the US. So to say that the US Sucks at Football/Soccer is just not seeing the whole picture. Trust me when I say that there is no shame in losing to those 2 teams the way the US did. US playing those teams is like bringing a Class A Baseball affiliate up to play in the Major Leagues. Their players are proffessional players...ours are kids right out of college for Pete's sake. Take it easy on the US Soccer team.
Team USA is not a bunch of kids out of college...these are established pro players...mainly from the MSL...but many play in European leagues too.
Take team captain Carlos Manuel Bocanegra for example...a player of Catalan and Mexican heritage...is an American soccer player who plays for Stade Rennais F.C. of France's Ligue 1.
USA players are no slouches...they can certainly play against most countries...they are just not simply in Brazil and Italy's league yet.
Having said that...Bocanegra is injured...bad news for team USA.
