It was against Egypt... USA is supposed to beat the likes of Egypt.

Spain...the number one ranked team in the world is their next opponent...good friggin' luck USA.

      BTW...Brazil destroyed Italy...3-0.

The USA is still waaaaaaaaay better than Mexico.

You think so? Egypt are the African champions, they had allready beat Italy and put 3 goals past Brazil. I think the USA winning this match was a shock result.

Let me make a bold statement.
          I hate soccer.
          It's no longer a sport.
It's reduced to trying to destroy an opponent's kneecaps, dragging him to the ground by his shirt,...

          Mad Max was less brutal....

And as a kid, my Dad and brother were diehard soccer fans. It was the only thing on TV. I missed a lot of Star Trek and Voyage to the bottom of the sea due to endless soccer matches.

Egypt has never been a force in footie before...not even a footnote...that's why I said what I said.

The voice of reason...Thanks Thomas. In Italy and Brasil Football/Soccer is a WAY OF LIFE...they eat it, drink it, sleep it, and breathe it. Football/Soccer is Europes equivelent to Baseball here in the US. So to say that the US Sucks at Football/Soccer is just not seeing the whole picture. Trust me when I say that there is no shame in losing to those 2 teams the way the US did. US playing those teams is like bringing a Class A Baseball affiliate up to play in the Major Leagues. Their players are proffessional players...ours are kids right out of college for Pete's sake. Take it easy on the US Soccer team.

Team USA is not a bunch of kids out of college...these are established pro players...mainly from the MSL...but many play in European leagues too.

Take team captain Carlos Manuel Bocanegra for example...a player of Catalan and Mexican heritage...is an American soccer player who plays for Stade Rennais F.C. of France's Ligue 1.

USA players are no slouches...they can certainly play against most countries...they are just not simply in Brazil and Italy's league yet.

Having said that...Bocanegra is injured...bad news for team USA.

I know Italy and Brazil are powerhouses but they were humiliated by both teams. I realize that the U.S. does not have a soccer culture but it is growing (and we have had a national team since 1913 so it isn't a new sport).

The current group of players are outstanding but they just don't seem to have the skills, creativity, and imagination as Brazil.

With that said, I can't believe they actually squeaked into the semi-finals thanks to Egypt. Who would have thought that Egypt would beat Italy 1-0 and the only way the U.S. would advance was to beat Eqypt by 3 goals and Brazil to beat Italy by 3 goals which is exactly what happened.

It was great to watch them come back from two embarassing matches and take care of Egypt pretty easily.

I know they probably have zero chance of beating Spain but I will at least I'll be happy if they look like a team that belongs there and can keep the score relatively low. If they do win by some chance that would be major.

Right now, Brazil looks like the #1 team in the world despite being ranked #4. The way they beat the U.S. and Italy was incredible. They have a level of skill and creativity that is so far above and beyond any team I have seen play the beautiful game.

Got that right, they have one of the most lethal strike forces bar none (well maybe Brazil) Villa and Torres are unstoppable.

Actually Jozy Altidore from the U.S. can be lethal as was evidenced in the game against Egypt.

He didn't score but they were double teaming him. Unfortunately, Brian Ching has been hurt so no other big powerful striker up front.

Altidore can be awesome but his playing is inconsistent. Some days he is all over the place and other times he acts like he would rather be somewhere else.

The lineup from Sunday looked pretty good and although I have always been a bit skeptical of Michael Bradley (since he is the coach's son), he is a really solid midfielder that can play with the best of them.
