I think I'm done collecting...

I've just reached that point where I don't have space for them all, and they're starting to be more problems than they're worth. Boxes upon boxes upon boxes of toys. So I created a spreadsheet to keep up with what I had. There are over 500 items on this list. Megos, Barbies, Jem, Joes, Trek, Star Wars... All this energy and money put into collecting...

So I've decided time to let this addiction die. I've already given away two huge boxes of toys to charity, got more I'd like to sell and give away (yes, even Megos, you vultures! )...

Anyway, anyone else ever reach this point: ENOUGH! I'M DONE ALREADY!!!!

I've been known to purge occasionally, I think it's good for the spirit. I always cling to the stuff I really like but everything else? I'll see it again.

Oh I'll definately keep some of the goodies I had as a kid, even some of the nicer items I snagged along the way as I collected. But over all, I'd like to thin the herd down to just the best of the best. I was getting to the point I was collecting characters I knew nothing about. "Collect them all" is no longer my motto

It's happened to me a few times,when I was 14 that I had to sell everything in the garage sale,so I said that's it I'm done never again

But a few years later I walked into a K-mart and some kid was pricing all the toys at $1.00 clearance and I blew my whole paycheck and from there on I haven't stopped,I'll collect different collections and sell them but always go back to them again

So I decided to leave most of my stuff at my moms house

Been there too. It's good to take stock in what you have then thin it out and keep the more important things. You end up with a much better quality collection. Good luck!

I've only been actively collecting modern toys for the past 10 yrs (and nothing in the past couple), and even then it's only been Star Trek and Simpsons - but it's still too much damn stuff. I have several boxes earmarked for purging on ebay, but have been very lax on actually doing it, since I hate the whole ebay selling thing.

Thank god I realized pretty early on that I had to limit myself to the line I was genuinely interested in. Reading the toy boards and being in the toy aisles, you get tempted with a lot of stuff.. Star Wars, super heroes, etc. You feel like everybody is talking about it, hey you should buy it too! I fought that urge down many times, and boy am I glad now that I did.

I just went through and put a bunch of stuff aside to sell/give away. You know, its a blast to just give away some of the new toys for which you'd only get $5-10.

You can always re-collect most anything. Or you could just decide it was a fun part of your life and things have moved on.

But I, too, do this from time to time. When we moved to Arkansas from Texas, I sold off all my POTA playsets and accessories as well as my two (!!) Wayne Manors, a ton of Fighting Furies stuff, Capt. Americar, Walton Farmhouse, and all the reissue Johnny West figures. I still miss some of that stuff, but it made me better appreciate what I decided to keep! (and it made it easier to move too!)

i am there now . i plan on selling some of my extras soon. also getting rid of some lines like ombc waltons oz and slimming down the others, i dont have the room and will be happy with the ones i keep.

I NEED to do this. We're having another baby, and my study that has quite a few collectibles in it is going to be the nursery. So I need to purge some things. I'm such a pack-rat though, it's really hard.

See, that's why I'm getting only the things I want. I'm rebuliding what I had as a kid and getting what I always wanted and making only a few customs that tickle my fancy. Other than that collecting Hulk/Transformers/Gretzky/Marvel Legends/Piper/Mego stuff takes up the precious commodity known as space so you really have to be choosy.

At first it was hard to decide what should go- some things were 'collectable', others, just toys. I finally decided to go with things that meant something to me-like toys I had as a kid or characters I knew or identified with. Once I thought in those terms it was easy to dump stuff like the Dukes and superheros I knew/cared nothing about. Funny part is, in opening up storage boxes, I'm finding stuff I didn't even remember buying! Definately fodder for selling!!!

Giving them to charity is a noble thing to do. The Aaron Case fund is a fantastic cause that you should consider.

I haven't had that problem yet, but it soon might be. I've got most of my stuff still boxed up after the move (still gotta redo my collection room), but once that's finished and once I start unpacking stuff it's likely I'll come to the conclusion that I have way too much stuff.
Whenever I buy something now I try to stay focussed on things I really like and lines I really want in stead of just buying stuff because it looks cool.
