I nipped this in the bud during my early stages of collecting. As soon as I started seeing a few boxes of undisplayed stuff pile up, I decided, besides a few odd items, to only buy what I can display or what I really, REALLY wanted.Comment

I think about everyone on the board has gone through this at one time or another. You get a little burned out when space issues or budget issues come up.
Sell some stuff that you're not particularly interested in and keep the stuff you really love. The collecting bug will come around to bite you again.Comment

I've always though if I can't display it, then I don't need it. One of the main reasons I've never gotten into playsets. I have no room for them so they'd just be stored. I've also been tempted be "cool" modern stuff, but have resisted that as well, knowing that once bought, would just be "stuff". Sometimes collectors start buying for something to collect, and not because they have a real solid desire for a line. That is indeed when it's time to purge.Comment

Well, to be honest, I'm not as done as I thought. I still want a couple of Megos (mainly Invisable Girl and Thing), but I have thined the herd down to the Megos that mean the most to me. Plus I've trimmed the whole toy collection down too. Now I've got THREE huge boxes of toys heading out the door. I'm feeling better knowing I got rid of the 'scraps' from the collection... and that the scraps are going to a good causeComment

When I started collecting Mego's again...I also started buying newer Action Figure's as well(early 90's). For the past few Month's...I've been on a MASSIVE selling Spree, of anything NOT MEGO!I cleaned out 3 Large Boxe's, and a good portion of two Closet's. I've really thined out My "Non-Mego"Collection...and turned the Money around, into Mego's & Custom Mego's. Of course...now I'm bumming, cause I've got nothing left to sell.sigpicComment

My wife wants me to take a break for a while. I only have a few Megos from when I was a kid and those I haven't even put on display yet. I've put all the Justice League figures, metals and maquettes I have. That's one shelf. Another shelf is the Classic Trek (non-mego) figures. Another shelf is Gilligan, Skipper and The Professor, and the Gilligan and Skipper bobble-heads. I still have my Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back figures packed up - in the carrying case of course - along with some of the Superman/Batman figures and the Justice League Confidential figures, and the Alex Ross Justice figures I've been picking up.
Now she is saying enough. She wants room for our little girl once we do bring her back from Vietnam (any day now...), and she wants room for her needlepoint and plants.Shameless self-promotion -

But having to give up your hobby for hers and a couple of plants? That just seems wrong to me... no offence"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

My big problem is when I buy doubles or triples. I have to box that stuff and those boxes begin to eat away at space. I go through spurts of buying but I know eventually I'll get it sold down. Hopefully the markeplace will pick up again soon.Comment
