    Any Monkees fans out there?

For those that didn't know Peter Tork had a rare form of cancer in his mouth, he had surgery which got rid of it at the time. he announced yesterday that it's returned.

That's too bad. Huge Monkees fan as a kid and into my early tween years, when MTV aired the show in 86.

I caught an episode a year or two ago, and it was kind of hard to watch, but maybe that was just me. Is the series out on DVD?

As a kid I used to love the Monkees TV show, but today I can't watch it.

I still like their music though.

The Monkees were an every day at 3:30 thing for me in kindergarton. Still have a drawing I made of them in crayon somewhere.

Haven't watched an episode in 20 years but I still love a lot of their music.

The Monkees were the first band of which I remember being a big fan. I even waited 4-6weeks to fulfill the promise of a TV ad and have their "Best Of" mailed to me. I'm sure it was the regular viewing of the show as it repeated ad nauseum on Ch.48.

I realize the show's humor is incredibly dated now, but they planted the seeds of "wacky" and "madcap" that have grown into my tastes for comedy that's absurd or a bit askew.

I have the CD Then & Now. I got it when it was new. It has a few new songs on it (That Was Then, This Is Now, etc) and I still listen to it occasionally.
As for the show; I did watch it but even as a kid I could tell it was a bit juvenile. Haven't seen it in years.
What always ticked me off was that Mike Nesmith (who probably would've been a nobody had he not been a Monkee) feels he's to good to rejoin the group for any tours/reunions, etc.

Actually, Mike Nesmith was easily the most talented in the group. His post Monkees work as a solo artist is held in high regard and he's considered a pioneer in what is commonly referred to as "country rock".

He's far from a "nobody" and honestly, I don't blame him at all for not wanting to reunite with the Monkees. That stuff they did in the mid 80's without him was HORRIBLE......

Mike Nesmeth's mother Bette invented Liquid Paper. He has gone on to a solo career as well as a producer. His time with the Monkees was just that. He was paid to be an actor in a TV show. He has not had to rely on his past to keep him going today.

Loved the Monkees than and now. Watch the shows whenever I can. It takes me back to my carefree days of childhood!

I never said Nesmith wasn't talented but the fact of the matter is he became famous because of the Monkees. His solo stuff was eclectic at best and he hasn't done anything memorable (that I know of) since the early 80's. He probably would not have even had the chance to do solo stuff had he not been part of the Monkees so to turn his back (or nose up) on them and pretend that never happened is to snub your fans in the same manner as far as I'm concerned.
As far as their 80's stuff being horrible? I liked their new songs on Then & Now and That Was Then, This Is Now was a hit but any of their stuff would've been much better (and more successful) with Nesmith.
