Star Wars Lego's is probably a good bet. So many little things to loose that it's going to be hard to find complete items down the road.
But most toys in recent years are pretty much geared to be collectibles, and anything geared that way almost never turns out to actually BE worth anything. Too many people buying and keeping them packaged for the future for them to be rare enough to ever be in demand.Comment

Hard to pick anything off the top of my head. Whatever it would be, it would need to be a small low run line. Something like Go-Heros Buck Rogers figure maybe...even then the high up front cost means you would have to hold onto it for a long time and hope Buck Rogers remains a well known property. Which brings up another issue....tomorrows collectors are todays kids. A lot of the toy lines collected these days are from fogies like us who are buying something they recall from their childhood. Who is to say todays kids will give a rats pattootie about Star Trek or Big Jim when they are the ones doing the buying?
Otherwise, like Dave mentioned there are too many collectors and speculators out there these days for anything to become really rare or hard to find mip in the future."Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

you are probably better off buying an old toy that is not too popular right now but has the potential to be down the road....ie the Gabriel Lone Ranger figures, the 3 available in the US are still pretty cheap but that could change when the new movie comes out. I hear they are also doing a new version of Buck Rogers so that could give a boost to the Mego lines.Comment

While anyone can speculate all day long as to what the next potential "gold mind" may be my opinion would be Mego's and vintage Star Wars just to name a few.
One of my biggest fears if you will is that I buy up a ton of stuff (which I already have) only to find out later in life that everyone else has the same exact idea. Which most already do. I can remember going to the flea markets and antique malls some time ago and seeing just about every other vendor selling Hot Wheels. I have tons of carded Hot Wheels and apparently so does just about everyone else these days. Most all of this stuff is being so mass produced these days I really do not see how any of it will really be worth a whole lot in the future.
I always look back at the Starting Line Up figures and Spawn action figures just as a couple of examples of bombs of the past. Grant it not everything is going to be a winner as it pertains to collecting.
I always think about the movie Something About Mary. The scene where the guy goes out to the woods to take a pee and the cops show up and bust him. The guy comes out of the woods telling the cop that he was just taking a pee. Then another guy comes out of the woods, and another and then another saying the same thing to the cop. That was hillarious. That scene reminds me of the collectors.
If one is ever in doubt and is speculative of something just do a search on eBay and you will quickly see just how "rare" most of this stuff really is. I personally do not collect for profit. I collect for fun. Although I would like to see all of the items that I purchase go up in value rather than down. That is just common sense. I will not be crying if it all tanked in value tomorrow. I have already assumed the built in risk potential. I just like to have fun collecting. After all one has to do something to pass their time here on this ball we live on.Last edited by livnxxxl; May 30, '09, 3:59 AM.Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like.
