You sure said/typed that right. Who knows how many good records that I may have passed up due to lack of better knowledge. ???

Holy crap, nice one, man! Time to firm up on my collectible record knowledge.

Interesting, i have a load of vinyls, I doubt they are worth much but my interest is peeked.
Are there any reliable price guides out there?

Price guides are generally garbage. They are good for discographical info, but for current prices there is no better price guide than completed auctions on ebay.

There are also two sites that anyone selling records should check out. What they do is basically catalog past eBay auctions. Since the completed auction search on eBay only searches back two weeks, these sites are very helpful in sorting out yr valuable records:

popsike.com - rare vinyl records auction results / price guide - record collector
Collectors Frenzy Online Record Price Guide For Rare Vinyl Records Prices

It's amazing to me that there aren't similar sites for toys or other collectibles--archiving past ebay sales from the last 6 or 7 years.....

"Convenient digital music" is all fine and dandy until you are way deep wading into the pond of recorded music and suddenly realize that a significant portion of recorded music has never been issued in digital form!

Records serve many functions, but for many serious music fans there is no alternative......

I would totally agree with you on this. Not only for records, but anything collectible for that matter.

Thank you for the cool links. Now I will have something more definite to go by when I do check the very few records that I have and have found. Perhaps now I will even have a better idea as what to look for in the future.

That sure would be nice if there were. I suppose there is no issues with using eBay's past sales as archives??? I suppose that it would fall under the fair use law. Maybe now someone will take a hint and start such a site for toys. That would definitely be cool.

A few years ago on this very board someone was asking this very thing: a definitive online price guide for Megos and other toys. I provided a link to popsike.com as a sort of template for what could be done for MANY different collectible fields.

As far as I can tell it is legal and does not infringe on copywrite. Popsike even charges for their service after a user make more than 20 or so searches. I pay $20 every 6 months to use their site.

                Toy dudes, get with it!

Cool! That is a very small price to pay for such a wealth of information. I hope that the site does well and stays around for a very long time to come.

well it would seem otherwise nobody told me if it was rare still they made good music for their time.

Time period or not, you either like their music or you don't...to me,
the surprising thing is that Kraftwerk wasn't a hugely popular band---
so to bring in big prices for their vinyl is quite interesting.

Thanks for the links. I really wish there was something similar for toys, it would be very helpful.

their are many bands that were not huge in their day and their albums are still worth alot of money. joy division's albums go for so decent money, and alot of rare 80's hardcore band's records seem to fitch a decent price too meanwhile music that was popular in it's day (huey lewis, warrent, etc) might not be worth anything.

Yep---probably a good reason for that---something probably having to do
with the tenacity/fickleness of fanbases 20/30 years down the road.
