Vinyl does sound better than CD's or digital...it's a fact. There's more warmth to analog than digital will ever give you. Been contemplating selling off all of my CD's that I already have the vinyl versions of. I can make a better CD than is already out there...seems like a lot of the producers/engineers are re-mastering the older stuff waaaayyyyy to loud these days. The last 2 Beatles sets that came out were absolutely HORRIBLE. I don't know what to expect from the re-issues that are coming in September. They will probably be the same bad re-masters that they've been coming out with.
Now back to the question...If you are looking to buy and re-sell the 45's to make profit...then you better study up. There can be a lot of 45's that sell for major bucks. Two words...Northern Soul. Another 2 words...Independent labels.
I always tell people, collect something becuase you love it...If you love music sounding the way it should be than collect away."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

I personally still prefer a CD quality sound over a hiss and a pop any day. That is just me though. I do like the art work of the larger records.
So does this mean that MP3's players are going to be replaced with a 33 player in cars now?Wouldn't that be something? Although I seriously cannot see that happening I do think that it is kind of neat that they are making records and giving you the MP3 downloads to them. This way one can have the cover art and the digita music without the hiss and the pops for someone like myself.

Hmmm... That is cool for those that are seriously into vinyl. I like choices even if it may not be something of interest to me now. Things always change. This is the first I have heard of this. Again though I am not into the whole vinyl loop either. I am sure that it will make a lot of vinyl collectors happy.Comment

if i do start collecting i only want them complete with sleeves. the artwork is what makes them appealing imo.
i wanna stick with 60's records and maybe some smiths and joy division.Comment

This is a problem with new stuff too. The "loudness war" is a big problem IMO. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war
This, combined with the harsh sound that a lot of CDs have, make vinyl a more attractive option for many albums.Comment

i was talking to this record collector about 5 years ago and he was telling me he loved the sound of japanese vinyl so much he'd listen to anything, he said he even listen to "the carpenters" guess he wasn't a carpenters fanstill the cd and digital generation doesn't know the difference of sound quilty.

I know I probably saw this or posted it somewhere before on this board (and I don't need to be reminded if so.)
But....there is a new record player that just came out. Our local Exclusive Company sells it. It has a modern needle in it that doesn't scratch the records. They are seriously trying to bring records back!
The one record player comes with a USB cable that hooks up through your computer (if you want to capture sound from your old records and convert them to MP3s or whatever your heart desires.)
A lot of DJs have made it possible to still receive modern records of modern artists. Our band is going to release our new album on record as an option along with compact disc.
It seems to be coming around full circle again. Odd but true.Last edited by Cosmicman; May 26, '09, 11:36 AM.More custom Mego madness on Facebook right here...

I have some old vinyls that have just been sitting around. I might have to go through it to see if anything I have is worth any money.
I do remember having a small collection of Iron Maiden Picture Discs that I sold years and years ago for some pretty good money and I might have some other stuff including some early low production punk rock.
I did pull a couple of my favorite albums and framed them since I loved the cover art including Charlie Brown Christmas, Lynyrd Skynyrd Second Helping, and of course Sgt. Pepper."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Personally, I find vinyl to be a waste of time and energy.
I'm easily satified with convenient digital music and any
difference in sound to the kind of vinyl I had as a kid is not missed.
The advice to collect what you love is tantamount to
this thread's question---and any thread's simillar question.
There are many reasons to collect vinyl, the bottom line is
though, do any of these reasons matter to YOU"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

valuable 45's can still be found creap anywhere (yard sales, flea markets, thrif shops) if you know what to look for. i guess that's one reason i thought about collecting these.Comment

In the last month I have sold 5 lp's-- One for $787.88, one for $463, one for $470, one for $154.37 and one for $111.11. My combined cost for all of them was $4.50. There are valuable records to be found everyday sitting in piles at thrift stores, estates sales, yard sales etc etc. Whereas things like carded Megos rarely show up at these sorts of sales there are records just as valuable showing up all the time!
The key is to know what to look for!Last edited by megoat; Jun 1, '09, 10:30 PM.Comment
