Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Seeing cable television for the first time at a friend's house about 1977, "Man you are lucky, you have 13 channels!!!!"
There was actually only about 8 channels that were watchable, I remember what they were:
2 - info channel (red/blue screen with scrolling local info)
3 - local NBC channel (still is)
4 - local church channel
5 - local ABC channel (still is)
6 - ???
7 - local CBS channel (still is)
8 - USA Network
9 - another local info channel
10 - Houston Independent channel
11 - WGN Chicago
12 - PBS (still is)
13 - TBS
Going to McDonald's and pulling down the glove compartment door to set the drinks in those little circles.....
Getting prizes from McD's that had to do w/ their own characters, like wrist coin purses, glasses, Hamburglar dolls and calendars. A Happy Meal? What's that?

I remember when prime time programming would get preempted by a news event, only to be filled later by, of all things, an episode of Ultraman! Back in those days, if a scheduled show got scratched, the local TV station pretty much put on whatever they had laying around.
Standing in Woolworths for what seemed like hours looking at all the Ben Cooper & Collegeville costumes, and buying a new scary sounds or ghost story record.

My parents ordering GI Joe Adventure Team figures and play sets from the Sears Holiday Christmas catalog! I miss those days...
For me it was parking my butt in front of the after school cartoons w/ a pencil and paper to write my list for Santa as each commercial came on. I was a pretty greedy kid and asked for way too much, but usually got the top 10 items on the list. (No. 1 was ALWAYS a doll).

When seeing a previously released film on television was actually a big deal. Remember the first time they aired Airport '77? King Kong '76? Rocky? All big, big deals. And often they were two night events.

I can remember walking into a particular store and seeing GI Joe stuff, not on the aisles, but on the wall behind the counter. That's because they were in boxes and $5 each!
What about big ole toy displays? Haven't seen some kind of diorama of the latest and greatest set up for a loooooooong time....not even in a dedicated toy store.
Here's a great recording off regular television back in '77. A news break from the Incredible Hulk and then a promo for Rudolph...sigh... It feels like yesterday once more...
