    Random Outdated 70's Experiences

I'm stuck at what will hopefully be a very slow day at work on a holiday (U.S., of course) and I've already caught up on most of the threads I missed from this weekend. So...

What kinds of minor experiences do you randomly recall from the 70's. You know the type of thing you just don't experience anymore?

I was just thinking about scooting across the living floor on all fours to twist the TV knob in order to catch my favorite show. That most likely lead to another 70's experience- having one person manipulate the TV antennae/tin foil while a second person relays how well the picute is coming in.

    Stores closed on Sundays.

Milk sold in vending machine deals. Helpful since there were no convienence stores and grocery stores were closed on Sunday.

Great Saturday morning cartoons. And you used to have a preview of the new shows the friday before the season started.

Great cereal box toys. Dinosaurs, baking soda subs you name it.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
    Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

      Black and white TV.

Only 8 channels if you were lucky.

The O Canada, American anthem at the end of the viewing day.

Test patterns till the farm report came on. (What they called the 5 AM news since farmers were the only people up that god forsaken early to see it.)

HBO was the first all night channel

        Big Wheels

Banana seats and those orange flags that went on the back.

        Cards placed in the spokes.

There were tons of drive in movie theaters.

Speakers that connected to your window.

              Ahhh, TV aerial talk

We had an aerial on the roof.

It was pointed towards NYC so we'd get all the NYC channels.

One day I got bored and climbed on the roof - courtesy of a big tree growing by the house.

I turned it south to see if I could get Philly channels ....

It worked !!!!!! ... although the Philly channels were a bit snowy.

Now the wheels really started turning ........

What if I hooked up 2 strings to the aerial, ran them down the side of the house and into the window ?

Now I can get both citys at the pull of a string !!!!!!!!

              It worked !!!!!!

Only prob, it only lasted about 2 days.

Loosening the aerial made it too easily moved in the wind

My mom also said, "get that garbage off the house, people will think bums live here"

People were not afraid to tricker treat or shoot of fire works on the holiday.

TV dinners in those little metal trays. Eating in front of the TV was a big thing in those days. It was rare mom let you eat outside the dinning room.

                  Now you eat anyplace but.

A bad memory. Vinyl car seat covers. You'd get 3 degree burns in the summer time.

                      No seat belts.

Sitting in the back of the station wagon in the rumble seat deal.

Great stuff, but more experiences and less things.

Another one- knowing exactly when on track 4 you hit your 8-track's "switch track" button to catch the song you wanted to hear on track 1.
