Cat, you are not showing the satellite view of your house but the Google Streets view, which is taken by special vehicles driving around the streets taking pictures from cameras mounted on top. They are doing this not only in America, but all over the world.
They are in the process of doing my town now, but last I checked, the closest they have gotten is about two blocks away.
