I've backed off several time if I know others are really after something. Others have backed off for me. Often a little communication will save you both some money.

On the other hand, there are a few items that come up that both really want, and in that case the highest bidder wins. No hard feelings.

While I don't look at the other bidder's name, there are two places there are no friends. Ebay and the poker table. Money or toys it doesn't matter, I want it all. I'm just a greedy little .
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I have definitely backed off when I saw a member bid and knew that they really wanted a certain item. I don't post much, but I do read the posts every day. So, I kind of know what people are looking for.

I also didn't bid on that "semi-hidden" super girl when I saw mitch was bidding, since I knew that he needed her to finish his collection.

When I get out bid by a member, I am happy at least that a true collector won.

johnnynycmego your answer had my laughing!

I guess it would depend on who it was but usually I don't even look at who's bidding as I always use a sniper service and I set it as soon as I see something I want, which usually happens within the first day of the auction so I usually don't see who's bidding but if someone asked me not to bid on a mego item that they thought I would bid on, I would most likely NOT bid.

Only exception would be the fashions or the playset for the mego Lynda Carter dolls. I have wanted those since I started collecting mego toys about 15 years ago.

In a special situation. If it was THE piece I knew someone here wanted or needed to complete their collection and it was just a part of my collection building. If it was a prized peice I also wanted then, all's fair.

The rules to always adhere to are as follows: Yes as long as it's not me bidding, and you definitely should go to war if it's something I'm selling.

Follow these simple rules and you'll do fine. Cross them? It's bad, very bad.

Ignorance is bliss. Unless your name here is the same as your EBAY ID, I have no idea who's who.

I don't have any problems outbidding members here. If there is something I want bad, I'm going to put in a competitive bid and if I win I win, if I lose to a fellow member, it doesn't bother me.

If it is something I really don't want that bad to begin with, I'll usually put in a low ball bid that will probably be beaten anyway so I'm not intentially trying to run a price up.

Like a few have mentioned, if you backed away from every auction that a member was bidding on, there's not going to be anything left over for you.
