Reason-2 I hate remaded movies and TV shows

The old movies are...OLD (i.e. outdated to most of today's audience)

And like Timothy2251 said, there are certainly venues out there that show these original, classic movies. Most notably, TCM. And locally we have a PBS channel on the digital tier that does nothing but crank out old, forgotten films.

No ones mentions the big remake in recent TV history here. Battlestar Galactica.

The remake is just so better its a completly different animal.

Personally I couldnt watch old galactica reruns in my adult years it was just too uugggg. Bad acting, silly plots,Stock footage and poor effects.

Now with the better galactica I just couldnt care for the old series at all , not even on a nostalgic level.

I remember once a few seasons ago seeing a BSG marathon day on the Scifi channel and being dissapointed cause it was the old one and turned it off.

I can't even count how many times I see "Ocean's Eleven" listed on the TV Guide channel only to find it's the new crap version.
I don't think the original ever played since the new one came out.

They recently showed the original Ocean's Eleven on AMC.

I like the original...but I also like the George Clooney one as well.

Ocean's Twelve is pretty bad though.

Ocean's Thriteen...I kinda liked...Al Pacino was a great villain.

Another reason I hate remade movies or TV shows remade into movies ---

It seems once a TV show or movie has been remade, the original versions drop off the face of the earth.

I can't even count how many times I see "Ocean's Eleven" listed on the TV Guide channel only to find it's the new crap version.
I don't think the original ever played since the new one came out.

I wont bother listing anymore because my list would go on and on and on.

I appreciate your overall point but I recently recorded the original Ocean's 11 on HD Cinemax and it's also being shown sporadically on other Max channels.

Additionally, the remakes also make for updated and remastered DVD's/blu-rays of the original movies. I don't think The Day The Earth Stood Still would be on blu ray unless it were for the remake.

So, for me, remakes have a purpose, even if that purpose usually doesn't include seeing them.

I watched the new show when I could online (I don't have cable), but prefer the old show still. It is just friendlier to me. But I bring this up not to just be the opposite, but to point out that because this was a series rather than a one-time movie, Universal actually flooded the market with both old and new stuff. New DVDs of the 78 show came out around the same time as the original new mini-series. Toys came out that were both old and new ships, etc. I got more Galactica stuff the last few years then I could have imagined as a kid in '78. Where a re-make movie wants to be "new" and modern and stand on its own, hence move the older version from the mainstream, a TV series, I think, wants to keep the ball rolling anyway it can with as much merchandise as it can. Even if someone who is a fan of the new show might have wound up with a Galactica 1980 DVD in their stocking by mistake

In the doomsday machine, the creamhorn of death actually looks scary. Watching the Enterprise and the battered Constellation do battle is much more dramatic.

In "An Errand of Mercy" The two fleets rushing to square off over Organia were never seen onscreen. Not one klingon ship. Now seeing the fleets approach gives the scene more weight.

I really wouldnt mind if the originals faded into obscurity. I cant imagine these shows now without the improvements.

I am Legend is another great example of a superior remake, and not just because of better visual effects, although that certainly did not hurt it.

However, I cannot for any reason understand why they chose to CG the mutants. They looked fake, actors in make-up would have been easier and cheaper, and they spoiled the film for me.
Despite its low-budget status, I prefer Omega Man.

No, it's a shame older versions get harder to find.
It always annoys me when I'm looking for Godzilla DVDs and all you get is GINO (Godzilla In Name Only, aka Emmerich-saurus).

Remember...in many of these scenarios a notable amount of people
aren't aware there was an "original" to begin with.

It is therefore our responsibility to educate the masses and let them know that history exists. Art and culture are a process that takes many many years(decades,centuries).
People often take things for granted, and think that films like SW and LOTR just popped out of nowhere. No, they are the product of evolution, going from The Lost World (from the 1920s), to Ray Harryhausen classics (50-60s), to Jurassic Park (80s), culminating in the latest CG movies.

I feel that kids should be taught more history, including movies.
A while ago, I was watching Kong ('33), and my niece said "they stole that from Jurassic Park. Sigh.....

So many people disregard the evolution of music, art, films, etc. The latest stuff is always "the best" and "the only thing worth watching".
Some people just won't watch anything in black and white.
that's like saying: I love my new Porsche, but don't bother me with the invention of the wheel, 'cause that's old stuff.....

The sarcasm in your post is unwarranted.

Firstly, I never said old movies are "useless", and, secondly
I never said today's movies are "better" than the older ones.

I only said today's audience on the whole cannot relate to them.

As the older grow older, the old must make way for the new
---not because the new is "better" but because that's the nature
of entertainment, humor, social commentary, etc.

---each generation is allowed to have their "own" movies...it's presumptious
to expect older movies to have the same exposure on T.V. when newer stuff
is being created all the time in an attempt to be relevant and fresh.

Sometimes the newer stuff works and sometimes it doesn't....

but to try to paint newer media and newer generations of viewers with
such a broad stroke of "a lack of quality" is dangerous.

That mindset negates any positives gathered from newer generations
and their ideas.

Bottomline is....respect towards certain generations works BOTH ways.
Young to old AND old to young.

....the scenario that kids "can't do maths" and are having spelling difficulty
scenario because older movies just aren't as accessible or relevant anymore
is totally silly. You can blame a more vapid generation on a LOT things....
but new generations of T.V. shows and movies is not one of them

Just because "the old" gets overshadowed by "the new" is no reason
to be bothered----a teenager, or a twenty-something is allowed to have
the kind of entertainment that appeals to THEM more and speaks
to THEM more, just as the 40 year old, or the fifty-something person
is allowed to have their kind of entertainment.

If each generation didn't produce it's own brand of entertainment----
then entertainment would become stale, predictable and wouldn't be
addressing what's going on in today's world using today's tools to
tell stories.

You may not like it....but you're not supposed to, just like
teenagers today aren't expected to like CASABLANCA.

"Demand" dictates how these T.V. shows and movies etc. are marketed
and what venues they are available at.

As somebody pointed out, there are DVDs being made
and channels that support the older more out-of-date movies--

...so my idea is that you enjoy your entertainment your way
and allow the younger generations to enjoy new entertainment
in THEIR way.

Because Germany is now a "friend" to Europe, a lot of the bad stuff they did in the past isn't spoken of because it might OFFEND them.
