Reason-2 I hate remaded movies and TV shows

Another reason I hate remade movies or TV shows remade into movies ---

It seems once a TV show or movie has been remade, the original versions drop off the face of the earth.

I can't even count how many times I see "Ocean's Eleven" listed on the TV Guide channel only to find it's the new crap version.
I don't think the original ever played since the new one came out.

I wont bother listing anymore because my list would go on and on and on.

    Just wanted to vent.
    Thanks for reading

I would agree, that I'd prefer new original material to remakes.
    Something original is better.
A lot of original films and series are fine they way they are. Day the Earth stood still, for example.
I love old movies, and remakes often get it terribly wrong; POTA, anyone?

But as long as I can get the old ones on DVD, I don't mind the new ones, I just ignore them.
There's room enough in this world for both.

As for the new Trek movie. Mike, trust me and don't watch it. I liked it (for about 75&#37, but I think your bloodpressure will go through the roof. Just enjoy TOS. That will NEVER change.....

I would generally tend to agree but once in a while they do get it right and make it equal to or better than the original....
perfect example is the Fugitive.......a mediocre show that became a classic movie.
Star Trek is a good movie in it's own right and I really liked it for what it is....and the movie does not pretend to be a rehash, they very clearly state it is an alternate timeline from the original series.....
I am Legend is another great example of a superior remake, and not just because of better visual effects, although that certainly did not hurt it.

Of course for every good one like these there are a few dozen turkeys like the Honeymooners, Starskey and Hutch, Bedverly hillbillies....I could go on an on

Even if the remake is better (in your opinion), do you like the idea the originals have suddenly disappeared ?

The question isn't if you like remakes ....

The question is how remakes make the originals suddenly disappear

I don't understand why this happens either. There are numerous movies that this has happened to. It seems like they just want to force the newer version down our throats. Oceans 11 is a good example. Try to go into a store and buy the original. Even ask someone that works there about it and they look at you like you dont know what you are talking about. I just dont get the thought process as to why the studios, networks etc do this.

Because they want to make money, that's why!

I haven't seen the original version of Day the Earth Stood Still, The Thomas Crown Affair, and a lot of others ever since the new stuff came out.

And wasn't I am Legend made twice?

First with Vincent Price, and then with Charlton Heston?

It does suck when that happens. But many haven't disappeared. Like Twilight Zone, Munsters, Addams Family, Bewitched, Lost in Space, Planet of the Apes and I sincerely doubt classic Trek is going anywhere. The TOS just got a Blu-Ray box set of the first season and 2 different box sets of the original ST movies. Not to mention all the classic series toys and merchandise available with more coming.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

it's ridicious all the movies today are movies based on old tv shows, remakes and sequels to sequels to movies that should have never been made in the first place. hollywood is more about making money than it is about wanting to make good original films that tell a story.

I think it goes in waves. When a movie (re-make) is new, then they usually bottle up the original so that people won't have an outlet for seeing that version rather than the new version, but I've usually seen come DVD release time, both versions of a movie available. "Father of the Bride" comes to mind (although I think that was VHS then)
                  It's all good!

Remember...in many of these scenarios a notable amount of people
aren't aware there was an "original" to begin with.

                      Another example

                      The Nutty Professor

How many times within the last few years did the remake play on TV ?
                      Answer -- 10,0000,000,000,000 times

                      Answer -- Once

yeah, but to be totally honest, who wants to see the original Nutty Professor. Hell, I don't even want to see the remake, they both sucked....LOL

I do get what you mean though.

I see and appreciate type1kirk's point, though remaking movies, etc. has been around since Hollywood got started. I will say modern remakes are very hit or miss, but when they do get it right, it's golden (case in point: the new Trek was a VERY pleasant surprise, despite the story/script issues - it was made during the strike, so I'll give 'em some leeway - and I was damn sure it was going to fail. Instead, I'm more excited about the franchise then I've been in years).

I do agree that it's not like the old days when you'd be able to catch the originals on TV, but with the advent of the DVD and cable/satellite TV, plus the web, it's really not that hard to find or access the originals (AMC's been pretty great at this - I saw the original Ocean's 11 not too long ago (oh, Frank, Sammy, Dean... how we need you guys TODAY!), and I can always tape an episode of TOS when it comes on late Saturday nights here).
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

Are you kidding? Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis is a CLASSIC! I have the DVD and it's an awesome movie. Jerry should have won an Oscar for that. Just seeing that young, beautiful Stella Stevens is worth watching the movie for in itself.
Which brings the question: what ever happened to Stella Stevens?

It doesn't make much difference if they are remade or not
as they're not going be shown that much on TV in 2009 regardless

I find it fascinating no one realizes this (or has said that) and they'll surmise
that these antiques not being shown on TV because they are being replaced
by new ones with the same name...nah.

The old movies are...OLD (i.e. outdated to most of today's audience)
THAT'S why they're not being run as much on T.V.
