Yeah, I always heard Bea Arthur mentioned in roasts....along the lines of "the only person more masculine than Person X is Bea Arthur"(insert audience laugh here).
However, what I know from those roasts is, you don't get a mention if there isn't some level of respect (Andy Dick excluded and even then, he's right there when it's said).
Bea Arthur was a presence and that was used for comedic value and not out of a lack of respect. I never got that from those kind of comments.
Now, go make snus-snus!Comment

I honestly think her performance of "Goodnight But Not Goodbye" was one of the highlights of the Star Wars Holiday Special. I like how she really got to interact with the Cantina creatures. I also liked the melancholy tone of the song.Comment

When I heard about her on the news it immediately made me think about that. I may be one of the only people in the world that has grown to love the Star Wars Holiday Special after repeat viewings (currently 14 times). I have all the musical performances on my MP3 player and I often listen to them, especially "Goodnight But Not Goodbye" and "This Minute" by Diahann Carroll. I once counted how many times Bea Arthur said the word "friend" in her song, but I have since forgotten.
Rest Peacefully, Bea Arthur. You will be missed, friend.

She also was in the musical Mame on Broadway, back in the day. Here is a "reunion" clip with her an Angela Lansbury.
