I have read reports of long time Las Vegas residents claiming that the streets were safer when the Mob ran Vegas. Have you ever heard that before?

That's one of the paradoxes of organized crime. Crime is bad for business so it get's taken care of.

The main strip is actually pretty safe from any serious violent crime, of course anything can happen, but most of the crimes that i seen on the strip are hookers, Street fights and cars getting stolen from the casino parking lots. But the city knows that the Strip is the Vegas economy and they cannot let it fall to pieces. whenever i'm at a casino or on the strip i feel pretty safe.

I live in Hnederson, 20 miles from the strip. My area is pretty safe. Once and a while a robbery, stolen cars but so far and hopefully it never gets me!!

But overall i guess Vegas is just ok! The schools are not that great, way overcrowded! And the junior high and High Schools all have gang issues. The majority of the dangerous gangs end up being illegal aliens. Alot of them come here for work, many are idiots who of course choose crime!

The Vegas economy is funny, it was hit hard, yet so was all of America. But at the same time almost every casino is expanding. And in the next 2-4 years they claim 20-30,000 new jobs will be available.

A new Casino named " M " just hired 1200 people, the Hard Rock is currently hiring 1900-2200 people and the MGM project called " City Center " is hiring at least 12-15,000. So yes the economy was hurt, but there is much growth.

Property taxes are very low! And right now you can get a killer brand new house with the works for like 170-250,000.

If America doesnt hit a depression then Vegas will do awesome!
Hey, Thanks for the low down on Vegas. I appreciate the info. I have always felt safe in Vegas as well. That is another reason that I keep going back often. I tend to stick to the main strip. I am not a old town Vegas fan (not that there is anything wrong with it) as I enjoy the strip so much more. I am also familiar with Henderson. I drove through there on a couple of occasions. Yeah, it is really wild when it comes to the economy. The same holds true here just not as big as Vegas of course. St. Louis is wanting to be a Vegas want a be IMO. I think St. Louis is like 7-UP in the regards that St. Louis never had it and never will. Not like Vegas anyway anytime real soon that is for sure. Vegas has it going on! Even despite the "so called" bad economy and a butt load of jobs lost here in Missouri - St. Louis area was pretty hard hit the casino's still continue to remain packed. I was a little bit surprised at first when I walk in and see all of the peeps there. Then I figured that with so many peeps out of work here that they were all at the casino's trying to get rich quick to make up for their employment loss. I guess it beats crime for sure. However, there is crime everywhere in all cities in states to some degree. Just some more than others. There are indeed the good places and the bad places everywhere you go. Here is to hoping that everyone is in a good place and not bad.
