    Schooling after high school?

I was wondering who went on to get more schooling after high school? Trade school? College?

I originally went to culinary school in 1990 and graduatedin 92. Worked as a chef for a while and found out I had to work WAY too many hours. I then went to Southern connecticut State and hated that school so I transferred to The University of Wyoming. I totally recommend that school. Great experience. I then went on to get My masters degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. That's it until my daughter gets older. I'll then start my doctorate then.

Have you ever thought of just enjoying yourself.?

I assume that you find all this learning enjoyable or you would not do it. I was one of those who could not get out of school fast enough, i never even took the basic exams at the end of it all, i was on the golf course at the time where i had been since i was 5 years old. My dream was to be a pro golfer but i'm afraid it remained a dream and now i just do a normal job and enjoy life as it is.

Good luck with your next course, my next course has 18 holes on it and a beer at the end of it.

School rocks! I got a BA in speech/theatre at Northeastern OK State, an MA in poly sci at Cal State, then I took a year cert in Russian at Defense Lang. Inst., went to nursing school, got another MA in English (at the U of Central OK, where I now teach), then another in drama at OU, and I have one more semester to finish my MFA at Goddard College in Vermont. I definitely won't go on for a Ph.D like Dr. TX, though. I love school almost as much as I love Megos!

Did I go to college? Absolutely! I been to college. On open house day I went through the front doors of college and looked around and walked out the back doors. So in essence I did go to college. I graduated High School. That was good enough for me. I personally thought that college was a waste of my time. I saved the $60K cover charge to buy Mego's. Sadly, I have had college graduates bag my groceries for me. Yes, college graduates not college students trying to pay off their loans. I know that does not always apply to everyone and I am not trying to dis anyone for wanting to better themselves. Some peeps like school and actually use it to their advantage to make decent money or atleast I hope they do. In my case I was VERY fortunate. No bills - no debt - not too many worries. nuff said!

p.s. For now I will just stick with my B.S. in B.S.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

The same profession I had up untill 3 weeks ago when I got laid off. I have been talking to some people(NAYRBGO) about going back to school and living my dream of teaching. an interesting and polarizing question, coach

Do it, Anderson! It's great fun!

I have a B.A. in Literature from UC Santa Cruz, home of the Banana Slug!
And an M.A. in Education from L.M.U.
                  Two VERRRRY different schools.
National Board Certified, too. I jumped a bunch of hoops in my time.

I started teaching High School English early, around 23 years old, and I have so much fun. Turning 35 this year, on tax day like Benjamin Holcomb, April 15 (contrary to the birthday greetings that have come around already!), and I'm still fresh in it.

I agree with both ends of this polarizing argument. And also the middle.
As Twain says, "Never let your schooling get in the way of your education."
And I also think that studying Shakespeare really makes life better.
And everything else that comes in between......so many things to share, I could go on and on about this topic and what it brings up in all the different humans that think about it.

                  Live the Dream, Anderson!!!

I agree with the part about school never ending (or schoolin', per the Mark Twain quote). I don't think it needs to be polarizing, tho.

School can be fun, esp. grad school. I've done all kinds of blue collar work, even post-graduation. I enlisted after college and got my first MA while moving up the ranks to sgt. in the U.S. Army. Officers would always say, "why don't you go to OCS?" but my main concern was always trying to get to the end of my enlistment so I could go back to school.

I never went to college to make money, but so I could learn and b/c I liked being in that academic environment. I'd probably be just as happy working for building or grounds maint. on my campus as teaching in the classroom!

                      bgrimm,
Teaching is a fantastic job. Watching the students get the light bulb turned on when your trying to get a lesson across is magical. You should seriously consider going to school for it. I always considered school a means to an end. I always wanted to teach so I had to go to school to do it. bgrimm, if you need to ask any questions about teaching, drop me a line.

What a journey I've had! After high school I immediately went after and got a commercial art degree in the mid 80's which proved worthless (before computers). Then I went up to Dover, New Jersey and attended the Joe Kubert School of Art for a semester. Fun time but I quickly realized I couldn't make the kind of living I wanted being a comic book artist (second childhood dream destroyed); So I crawled back to Louisville and did what my dad had wanted me to do in the first place and that's get a degree in business (almost majored in psych until I reached a point where the treatments no longer matched up with the diagnosis). So a worthless associates and extremely valuable bachelors degree later, here I am. Been thinking for a while about going back to get my masters, but at this stage I don't know if it would really do anything for me.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Maryland.

I wanted to be a stock analyst and move to New York but met my wife and decided to pursue the accounting field.

Went back to college and completed a 2nd Bachelor's degree in Accounting also from the University of Maryland.

Passed the CPA exam in one try and have to complete about 80 hours of continuing education every 2 years to keep my license active.

I have considered going back for an MBA but honestly; you are not going to make more money with an MBA in my field. A CPA is considered just as good if not better so the pursuit of an MBA would be more of a desire than a necessity.

At some point when my children are grown, I would like to take some formal art classes and piano lessons more for my own enjoyment than anything.
