Very sorry to hear about your situation. The exact same thing happened to me three weeks ago but thankfully I was able to land a job with another company within 7 days of my last day. (A true miracle in this economy that I'm EXTREMELY thankful for)

      My advice is this:

      1. Stay Positive
      2. Eliminate all expenses except for bare minimums
      3. Tell EVERYONE that you know that can network on your behalf and pass your resume around. Too many people are embarassed. This isn't a reflection on you...just a sign of the times.
      4. Balance job search methods...1/2 networking and phone calls....1/2 generic online sites/recruiters.
      5. Call CEO's of companies in your field and introduce yourself and ask if they will accept/pass along your resume.
      6. Sell extra stuff now during non working hours to raise cash rather than wait until your savings are gone.
      7. Work at job hunting/networking, etc. 12-15 hours a day Monday-Friday
      8. Don't forget to eat/spend time with your family and also try to keep as much of your routine intact as possible without spending money. It does help your sanity to get out and see the world.

Just my two cents...it worked for me but I learned a huge lesson. Even though I'm employed and I have severance coming in also, I'm being EXTREMELY frugal and trying to eliminate any and all debts.

      GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thats what it takes sometimes, being an employee that can jump from one spot to another and not miss a beat.Theres not to many willing to do that around here.I started doing the safety stuff after a couple OSHA violations, its time consuming.

Good luck, Anderson! I know you're not alone and I'm sure more of us will be joining your ranks, unfortunately.

I'm sick of this Bull****. I am really sorry to hear about your job. We just laid off more people here, and I'm sick of it. I hope the hell I'm safe but like you, you never know. This whole economy thing needs to turn around, now. I'm convinced it's 90% fear. I mean it isn't like there's a plague killing off humans, or some sort of natural disaster wiping us all out. It's just about stupid money. grrrrr............

Hope those AIG guys get their nice fat bonuses...NOT!!! What a crock of doo-doo. Sorry man, I really am.

Best advice of all. I was laid off 3 years ago after going through a handful of crummy jobs. I was laid off 3 days before Christmas no less and literally had to pack my stuff and leave that day.

I decided not to mope around and immediately reached out to every contact I had...recruiters, past employers, every ad etc. leaving no stone unturned.

I prayed a lot and stayed positive. Within one month, I had two job offers and ultimately picked one close to home (10 mile commute vs. a 35 mile commute one way) and making 30% more than I was with the previous company.

Stay positive and good things will come.

I am so sorry Anderson. Hang in there brother. All things happen for a reason and not necessarily in the manner we would like. And remember this - When one door closes, another one opens. Stay focused and start looking for your new future. All possibilities are yours to have. I wish you all the best.

Sorry to hear this. I know of many at another large company nearby that have had layoffs recently. Hope you find something soon!
It was like that when I got here.
