Croquettes, huh? Learn something new every day, thanks.
So they're not similar? Then I gues I'll have to try taters one day, if I ever get in the US"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Oh yeah, croquettes are really good, (I believe they actually originated in France, named from the French word "croquer") and I think they are basically the same as "krokketen". My wife often makes the Japanese version, which are called "korokke", and often have vegetables, and some ground beef or pork mixed in with the potatoes. They are served with kontatsu sauce (kind of like BBQ sauce) and Kewpie mayo.
I think the main difference between all of the above and tater tots is the texture of the potato inside. The above all basically have mashed potatoes inside I believe, while tater tots are more made up of small, minced pieces of potatoes, soft (but not a mashed consistency) on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. Like hash brown patties.Comment
