My son wants to go watch that show at your house and wants to know if his dad can come along???...LOL

    Awesome stuff looks great.
My wife and I are going out looking at TV's tonight actually.
Hope to have a new 52 inch LCD set up by friday.

It didn't matter that the newer RP sets that used techologies like DLP and LCoS were a lot smaller and thinner than the older CRT RP sets, many people wanted a TV they could hang on their wall.

But I notice that my TV on it's stand doesn't take up much more space than my father's 52" LCD that he has on a stand (it's the stand itself that determines the size of the footprint), so unless you want to wall mount, a flat screen on a stand doesn't take up much less room than a RP on a stand.

Yep, that's the one. Couldn't recommend it enough. It took me about 6 months or so of serious TV hunting to decide on it. I actually had my heart set on the 70" version, but they had quit making it and sold the store display models before I could buy it as the house wasn't finished being built.

Oh, I would have loved the 70" version, but I was shopping for my set two years ago, and at that time the 70" SXRD was $7500 (!) at Best Buy here in Canada. I really lusted over that one, but alas it was too rich for my blood so had to settle for the 60" one. You bought your set at a good time, the prices on these really came down after I bought mine. If I waited at least another six months to buy mine, I could have saved at least $1000. I always have crappy timing for buying new electronics.

I have three high-end Samsung LCD's of varying different sizes in our home...we all love them.

But...I have a friend who has that Pioneer Kuro plasma...and let me be the first one to tell you...it blows away my LCD's left and right...watching movies on that screen is spectacular...much richer blacks, you don't lose resolution if you move to the side (like LCD's)...and it's just poetry in motion...awesome plasma...the best in the world.

Having said that...CGI-animated movies like Walle-E and Kung Fu Panda...look better on LCD's...but as far as regular movies go...the Pioneer Kuro plasma is the way to go.

Now it's the time to get one last one before it goes extinct.

Oh yeah, Samsung makes a really nice LCD, but you are right about the Kuro. No LCD could touch the black levels that the Kuro can do. And they don't suffer from the motion blur that LCDs often do. On the plus side, newer LCDs are getting better with those two aspects than they used to.

I hear you, I REALLY want to pick up a Kuro now while I still can.

Nothing's better than a CRT, but they just weigh too darn much and they're much too big. I had a CRT front projector throwing an 8-foot image in the basement for a while, and it was as close to film as you'll ever get, but it was the size of a coffee table and weighed 200 pounds. I switched out for an LCD unit, and while it's just not quite as nice, it's 11 pounds...

                That will forgive a LOT.

Sure. And the general admission price is only $2 for adults and .50 for children under 12! That includes a free bag of popcorn AND a small soda!!

                  Now THAT's a bargain!!!

We are currently showing a revival of the 6 Episodes of the STAR WARS movie saga. It is a limited engagement that will only be running for about 35-40 more years.

Oh, didn't I tell you, Hector? It's located in the very next room (the kitchen). It's called the microwave.

Well I have a 50" plasma TV that I'm very happy with. The picture is great and I haven't had any problems with it.

I bought a Samsung LCD 650 series 8 months ago and am very happy with it.

I guess just moving from a CRT was good enough for me.

I have a 32" LCD which does a great job. The detail and color is awesome for HD and upconverted DVD, quality SD signals looks good too. The only thing that took getting used to for me was the slightly "lit up" look of the blacks in dark scenes compared to CRT. But you get that same look in projected film in theater so the overall effect is more film like.

Still I am looking forward to the next generation of LCD's that include local dimming (a backlight that adjusts according to the location of dark areas in a scene) or LED to go on the market and come down in price.

The next big television type will probably be the super thin OLEDs, but they are still at least several years away from mass production. Sony does make a small 11" OLED model that currently sells for $2500, so the prices will have to come down a tad before people embrace the new technology.

I have severe, severe motion sickness issues and absolutely cannot watch a lot of activity on anything that has a flat screen. What the heck am I gonna do if I ever need a new TV? I think I have to go visit the creepy used-hotel-furniture store and buy a few of the big, ol' outdated glass sets for $25.00 each.

That's interesting... How would a flat screen affect you in a way that a old CRT screen would not?

Is it a size issue because these types of TV's are available in small sizes (well, LCD is, I don't think Plasma is)
