My friend said 3 years ago to stick with LCD. that they would last longer and be a better value.

I'm old fashioned and will stick with glass for a bit longer and see what pans out.

I've read too much negative stuff about plasma TVs. I'm sticking with my LCD

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

yup LCD's is the way to go.

Haven't you noticed how much cheaper Plasmas are? something had to give.

when i went to buy my LCD the guy said that if you play a lot of video games it will damage the plasma and that eventually they'll go bad in 5-8 years

Best Buy has already been slashing prices on the plasmas. They don't have a very long shelf life as compared to LCD. Most approximate them to about 5 years. I still haven't gone bigger than 32 inches with LCD. My 52" Hitachi is a projection HD and unless I find a deal too good to pass up can't upgrade from a TV that works great even if a wall mount would grant me some much needed room. I figure plasmas will be a thing of the past in the big retail market in a year or two. Once the decision is made it doesn't take long to accomplish with the way they're making newer models all the time.

It's a shame, because overall, plasma is the superior technology, but I could see that LCDs were winning the popular vote. The Pioneer Kuro plasma was widely regarded as the best television set you could buy. Damn, if I find a 60" Kuro on clearance, I don't think I could resist buying one.

For now I still have a regular TV, but I do plan on buying an LCD, always heard they were better than plasma

What are people thoughts on rear projection?
I bought a 60" Sony last year and have no complaints whatsoever. Games are super sharp HD with no lag, movies are bright and crisp.
Is it just the sheer size of this format that turns people off?
And for the record we also have a 42" LG plasma and 40" Sony LCD, and I don't see much difference, but I only play games on the 60".

I use to have an HD projection TV,but it was just to large and took too much space.I got rid of it and got myself a 46" LCD and a 32" for my bedroom

I have a 60" Sony RP set too (an SXRD, is that the kind you have?). It's great, very nice HD picture, fantastic colour, no lag. I think the thing is that the general public decided that thin screens were "sexy" and that spelled the beginning of the end of rear projection. It didn't matter that the newer RP sets that used techologies like DLP and LCoS were a lot smaller and thinner than the older CRT RP sets, many people wanted a TV they could hang on their wall.

But I notice that my TV on it's stand doesn't take up much more space than my father's 52" LCD that he has on a stand (it's the stand itself that determines the size of the footprint), so unless you want to wall mount, a flat screen on a stand doesn't take up much less room than a RP on a stand.
