Would You Give Up The Ball?

LSU baseball started tonight and it was the first game at the new stadium.

I was at the game tonight, and the very first pitch was fouled off. The guy sitting directly behind me caught it!!!!

If I had a glove, it would have been mine.

Within minutes, LSU staff was there asking him if would be willing to give up the ball to put in the Hall of Fame, and he did!!!!

He is getting a team signed ball for it!!!!

I would have held out for more than that if I would have even considered giving it up.

I would have given it up on loan to the HoF or wanted my name mentioned in the display (they may do that).

i wouldn't have done it for what they offered. They were there with in a minute and offered something you can buy off eBay at the end of the season for $50. Their first offer was just a Skip Bertman signed ball and he said no. He went and talked to them so he maybe getting something else. They WANTED that ball!!! I heard they didn't even do it to the guy who caught the first HR later in the game.

I figure they were going to take the ball out of the game after the first pitch, but it was fouled off.

Heck, I got Skip's autograph on the way out:

I would have given up the ball, got the free signed one, and put that one on ebay.

If it sold for 5 bucks, I would consider myself ahead

no way i would've given it up,and if I did...it would have to be for something special not a game ball signed that you can get anywhere

Their first offer wasn't even a "game" ball because it was already signed, in the LSU guy's hand. The game was three pitches old. I am not sure if the team signed ball will be a game ball or just a ball.

I still wouldn't have given it up if it was a "game" ball.

Heck, I bought a signed program from the 97 Regional of the CWS with most of the starters, and they won the National Championship that year. It cost me $42.

I am not saying I would have sold it to LSU (or anyone), because i wouldn't have sold it. I just think their offer was rather lame.

Trust me, I was thinking about it as the LSU guy came up. I was thinking $500 but I asked to see and looked it over. There were no special markings on it like they do with the HR record chase balls.

Check this out, the first "Out" ball is already on the auction block for $500 (with a bid) and they offer this guy a team ball for the first pitch ball!!!

yeah, i wouldve gave it up but would definitely hold out for more than just a signed baseball. maybe a jersey, jacket, cash, free pass for the season, etc...

So, what's the big deal about that ball. Isn't a signed ball better?

As a fan, I'd see it as giving back to the team, and being part of history, opposed to trying to get what I could for it. Just my opinion.

I don't understand, surely the ball is the property of the stadium, why would they have to ask for it.

In the UK it would have been...............give us the ball or be arrested for theft, your choice.

In baseball, the big thing is catching a home run or foul ball. The ball is yours to keep. Some people have caught balls that were worth millions of dollars. This ball is probably worth about $2000 or more, the first ball ever used in this park.
