I'm glad both of you gals went.

I couldn't make it...I had a wedding aniversary...and a birthday to go this past weekend.

Hey, Jessica...so did you enter a costume contest? A couple of friends of mine mentioned you...they loved your getup.

Hardygirl...my buds told me John Stanley...the guy who replaced the late Bob Wilkins on Creature Features...was there. Did you see him?

Yes, I entered the costume contest. I got honorable mention!

So...what did your friends think of the costume? Did you warn them about me beforehand, that I'm the most obsessed Planet of the Apes fan?

Next year I'll be there again...but I am going to make my own wig instead of a wig that is pieced together, and see how that goes, if that improves the overall look. Plus, I'm going to tweak the costume a little bit. And, I know what to expect now, so I will improve the overall makeup/hair application.

                Congrats!

Do you know who won? If your awesome costume didn't win -- then what did the winner wear?

Remember, it's a comic convention...Planet of the Apes doesn't really exist in that world, not really.

If you YouTube for Wondercon masquerade, there are clips of the winners there. There was a Star Trek New Kids on the Block, and some kind of super hero guys (my memory fails in this arena)...and I believe this fabulous Predator and another freaking fantastic godzilla won as well. I don't know what the categories were. And the only Star Trek entry won the prize from Lucas studios...

i think you'd have a better chance winning if you get a couple more people dressed up as ape soldiers beating down a human astronaut character and you're there as zira trying to stop them

Probably. Or pop locked on stage or something dorky.

I was the only ape in town....and, being the only ape in town, somebody did a nice write up of me on their blog. And for the first time ever under the goo, that makes me so happy.

                        this is what was said:

Best costume prob goes to either the Batman and Catwoman duo, or the woman in the Planet of the Apes with FX makeup, hair and costume. I did a double-take when I saw her. She looked so unassuming walking the show. If I didn't know better I'd say she walked off a tv/movie set.

                        very awesome compliment!!

I finished gluing everything by 11:45 AM. I got home at midnight. I stayed up until 1:30 trying to remove most of it. If I didn't have to blow my nose I would have just slept in it, I was so damned tired.

It was not hard to breathe at all. I was just worried about not being able to blow my nose.

I could actually drink from a real cup if I was very careful. I cut a breathing air passage underneath the muzzle for my nostrils and coated it with latex to prevent moisture absorption. I didn't eat anything solid all day. I thought that I would eat some cereal when I got home after removing the makeup, but I was too tired. And I freaked out because the black tooth enamel refused to brush off my teeth...after trying to remove it for a very long time...I had to swab it off with alcohol. Perhaps I may have been able to eat something solid after all. I just didn't want to touch up the tooth black enamel in case I missed and hit the muzzle.

And I can't wait to do it again. But probably not for Halloween. It's too much effort for my coworkers.

You should make shopping mall appearances like they did in the 70's

It will be neat to see if there are more apes at next year's con. Inspired by what they saw this year.
                              It's all good!

I was threatening to take BART. My sister said that I should be safe from the BART police as long as I didn't say, "Don't tase me, bro!! Don't tase me, bro!!"

That's when my husband said to forget it, that he was going to take me and HardyGirl and pick us up after we were done. I am so glad he did. I was one tired chimp at the end of the day...and even dozed on the way home.
