I heard if they really try, chimps can swim across the ocean.

They say most of the loose chimps in the USA swam here from Africa.

    Not sure if that's true.

Gruesome chimp attack doesn’t surprise experts - U.S. news- msnbc.com
Here's something about the California incident.
It leaves out the gruesome stuff.

If zombies can swim, so can chimps.
Seriously, though, the whole natural world is just so amazing.
Perhaps I'm easily impressed, but I get a kick out of how far/high
cats can leap, not to mention the balance they have.
I know some people with exceptional mental/physical preparedness
can accomplish similar feats, but not with the ease and grace of a cat.

Nature has a way of "equipping" species with certain abilities
and characteristics and whatnot....it balances out the planet...
          the universe.

That "balance" of nature is also the reason that humans could be qualified
as "the nastiest animals on the planet" ashumans could
also be qualified as the most compassionate----or the smartest.

A 165-pound male chimpanzee named "Boma" registered a pull of 847 pounds, using only his right hand (although he did have his feet braced against the wall, being somewhat hip, in his simian way, to the principles of leverage). A 165-pound man, by comparison, could manage a one-handed pull of about 210 pounds. Even more frightening, a female chimp, weighing a mere 135 pounds and going by the name of Suzette, checked in with a one-handed pull of 1,260 pounds. In dead lifts, chimps have been known to manage weights of 600 pounds without even breaking into a sweat.
You just proved my entire post.

Chimp pulled 847 pounds. Man pulled 210 pounds.

            Guess what?

            That's a 4-1 ratio.

            That female was on steroids...

Anytime I ever see chimps at the zoo, the only thing they ever pull is themselves

I avoid them at the zoo. I don't want to get hit with poo.

Scientists and zoologists have been debating about the "10 times stronger" number for years.

That started a few decades ago.

To correctly measure true comparisons between humans and a chimps' perspective strengths...you need to compare a human and a chimp of the same size and build.

So if you take an average adult male weighing about 140 pounds...and you take an adult male chimp (non-Bonobo) of the same weight, then the most accurate assumption is that the chimps' arms will be about four to five times stronger than the average humans'.

This of course shrinks when you introduce world-class weightlifters.

But then the question would be...what kinda activity? What specific display of strength?

Obviously not in the legs, humans have much stronger legs than chimps...especially power lifters.

Take this former Olympic Russian weightlifter, Leonid Taranenko.

He accomplished the heaviest clean and jerk lift of all times, 586 pounds...

So if you had a chimp with ten times that strength, then it would have been an astonishing 5,860 pounds.

That's basically two cars over your head.

You think a chimp can lift two cars over his head?

                    Of course not.

But yes, they are stronger than a human...just not ten times stronger.

Besides, the chimps' most deadly attribute is their teeth...then can certainly and literally rip your face off.
                    Good stuff Hec

Please, please remove that picture. If we're not permitted to even discuss politics or religion, surely -- surely -- we shouldn't be permitted to post graphic pictures of facial wounds. Thank you.

Who in their right mind would keep a chimp in their house?
Sad that someone got seriously injured and the chimp shot dead
